As one of the first parcel service providers for customers in established EU countries sending parcels to Bulgaria and Romania, DPD offers very competitive services with delivery times close to express. With Interattica, the Greek subsidiary of GeoPost since 2006, DPD can expand its product portfolio to Greece and offer very attractive prices and short delivery times.
Greece is quickly developing into a strategic location for both imports and exports in the Balkan Region. Greece offers direct connections via a daily truck route to and from Thessalonica towards the European Union.
The success of the cooperation between DPD and Interattica, newly DPD franchised, is proved by increasing shipping volumes to Greece, Bulgaria and Romania especially from established EU countries.
In the future, connections like these between the Polish gateway in Warsaw and the Ukraine, between Turkey and the Bulgarian gateway in Sofia or in the Veliko Tarnovo province, could also be incorporated.
Sending parcels to and from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe to other European countries will become easier and faster, thanks to the opening of the Baltic region’s largest parcel-sorting terminal in Riga by DPD Latvia. The maximum sorting-capacity of the new hub is 140,000 parcels per day. At the present time, DPD Latvia is sorting up to 10,000 shipments daily. What makes the hub in Riga so special is that central European standards were implemented using local contractors.
DPD Latvia currently employs more than 160 couriers and employees. The new terminal has a total sorting area of 2,900 m². Similar regional DPD hubs already exist in the Benelux countries and Denmark. The new hub is representative for European-wide technical standards of DPD. The DPD network terminals in Vilnius, Kaunas and Tallinn also use comparable equipment and function successfully doing so.
The modern conveyor line, used in the parcel sorting process, was specially produced for the terminal, taking into account forecasted capacity needs. Seventy-one pick-up and distribution gates together with the installed parcel sorting conveyor will ensure the fastest shipment sorting process in the Baltic states.
DPD is investing in growing markets and always aiming to shorten transport routes, as well as to improve operating times. This is why the new hub of DPD in Riga fits well into DPD’s strategy. The Baltic states are a strongly growing region heading toward the future with a new powerful sorting centre. Being the largest hub in the Baltic States based on criteria such as sorting area and production capacity, the new hub considerably improves the European transport way connection to Skandinavia and Eastern Europe.
Aschaffenburg/Munich, 14 June 2007 – DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH regards express shipping as a strategic growth area and aims to become one of Germany's leading providers of express services by the year 2010. This was announced at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich by Chief Executive Officer Hans Fluri, who stated that the company has the expertise and the capacity to meet the steadily growing demands of the market. Mr Fluri is turning express into one of DPD's core operational areas, with a strategy based on the twin pillars of extending the existing product portfolio and optimising the organisation by means of a specialist express division.
Across all industries German companies are benefiting from the continuing growth in the economy and are increasingly looking for express products in order to give their customers the fastest service. Because of its closeness to the customer DPD has an in-depth knowledge of market requirements and can make the necessary capacity available. Mr Fluri regards this as a win-win situation: "With its express services DPD makes it possible for other companies to achieve their growth targets – and can at the same time position itself prominently on a central growth market".
Two-pillar strategy The first pillar of the new DPD express strategy is a considerably expanded product and service range. In addition to a choice of DPD 8:30, DPD 10:00, DPD 12:00 or DPD 18:00 delivery times, consignors can select from a range of individual supplementary features and service options. These range from an ID check (on the consignee's identity documentation) and pick-up and exchange services via department delivery to Saturday deliveries. A unique feature on the market is the new proactive notification service by text message, which is not available from any other express service provider.
As a second pillar a specially established express organisation is, with the support of the decentralised locations in the DPD network, laying the organisational groundwork for a targeted implementation of the new services. Product design and sales operations in the express section are planned centrally, but DPD's tried and tested decentralised structure remains fundamental to the concept and ensures continued closeness to the customer.
Further new express services such as 'same day' and 'overnight' are planned for the future. From 2008 the expanded service portfolio will also gradually be extended to international shipping.
Aschaffenburg, 14 June 2007 – DPD intends to expand its international parcel shipping operations by 10% a year. At transport logistic Hans Fluri, CEO of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH & Co.KG, outlined the company's strategy for the coming years. International shipping of standard parcels is one of the core growth areas for DPD in Germany.
"We are raising the international profile of our brand in order to benefit from the growth in worldwide parcel shipping“, states Hans Fluri, who adds that the expansion potential of this segment of the market is considerably greater than that offered by domestic standard shipping. Here Mr Fluri only expects growth of four to five per cent over the same period.
The precondition for the forecast growth in international parcel shipping: "With the DPD system we are well-established in all of Europe's core countries, backed up by a worldwide network of partners and cooperations", explains Mr Fluri. In recent years DPD has successfully enlarged this network, creating a system which now covers over 200 countries and is being skilfully exploited for the expansion of the company's international shipping services.

Express hairdresser enters Guinness Book of Records
Munich, 14 June 2007 – Three hundred haircuts in 24 hours – this has put express hairdresser Nico Petrillo in the Guinness Book of Records. It only took him five minutes per person.
With this event at the leading trade fair for the logistics industry DPD is highlighting the major expansion of its express activities. For each haircut DPD is shipping a Guinness Book of Records to a social institution – express delivery, of course. Chief Excutive Officer Hans Fluri was highly satisfied with the symbolic event: "The world record shows what can be achieved with ambitious aims and perfect logistics. We regard this as encouragement for our express operations".

Aschaffenburg, Germany, 25 April 2007 – Courier, express and parcels delivery firm DPD has been working for Metro Group Logistics (MGL) since 1996. The company has just passed the historic figure of one hundred million parcels transported for the company’s logistical service and competence centre, and it’s a long-term partnership that’s set to grow even stronger in the future.
“DPD has an extremely well-constructed, efficient European network that consistently provides us with the ideal capacity for our constantly growing parcel volumes,” says Frank Wiemer, CEO of MGL, explaining what has underpinned this successful collaboration for over a decade. The value of the consignments carried is continually increasing. In total, DPD serves around 1,500 suppliers and a similar number of customers across Europe for MGL – often to extremely tight delivery schedules.
Metro’s supply logistics concept – with DPD as its partner in the area of parcel delivery – was even recognised in 2002 with the German Logistics Award. It enables the company to achieve substantial savings, optimises its processes and integrates its customers into the entire transport chain with DPD. In addition, the bundled transport of parcels allows for the more efficient utilisation of vehicles. Fewer journeys mean a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, to the benefit of the environment.
Wide range of new options
Aschaffenburg, 2 April 2007 – DPD is strengthening its commitment to express delivery by providing new options and additional services. In order to be able to offer customers the highest level of flexibility, DPD has had a wide range of new express services in place since 1 April, representing a total of 122 possible combinations and enabling DPD to perfect its new express service provision. The courier, express and parcel service provider had already launched its 8:30 am express delivery and Saturday delivery services on 1 February, the first step in a continuous expansion process of existing services which has now seen the introduction of 10:00 am and 12 noon express deliveries.
“Our express service responds to the wide range of requirements our clients have, and we have the right service in place to meet any customer need”, explains CEO Hans Fluri. DPD provides the whole spectrum of modern express delivery, including identity checks for recipients, a collection and exchange service, one-off shipments and individual department delivery, the services even extending all the way to proactive notification via SMS. This new service portfolio has enabled the company to take up a decisive strategic position within one of the strongest growth segments in the courier, express and parcel service provider market. DPS is basing this expansion of its expertise on tried and tested quality factors: simplicity and efficiency of processing and a high degree of customer proximity. “The fact that we are close to our customers and possess precise knowledge of their requirements will enable us to conquer the market with our new express services” is the confident view of Fluri. “Our commitment to express services constitutes an important part of our growth strategy, involving the targeted acquisition of new core segments of the market.”
