Specialist warehouse operatives have a talent for organisation. They complete transport documents for the shipments of our customers, make up consignments and load trucks. They transport parcels using a range of transport and conveyor equipment such as forklift trucks and parcel conveyors. They mark, label and secure shipments, complying with DPD's quality guidelines and other relevant regulations such as those relating to hazardous goods and dutiable goods.
The period of training for this qualification is two years.
Contents of the training programme:
- knowledge of types of goods and qualities
- checking incoming goods
- recording gross, net and tare weights
- knowledge of standard procedures for dealing with delivery complaints
- unpacking, sorting, pre-treating and stacking of goods
- grouping deliveries
- knowledge of packaging materials and resources
- measuring and using crates and other packaging materials
- use of the equipment and tools for sealing and tying up parcels
- packaging of goods in compliance with shipping regulations
- labelling and signing
- keeping storage and shipping records
- the main types of shipment and delivery procedures
- accident prevention regulations
