Air freight shipping with DPD continues to be uncomplicated, convenient and above all secure, even after the changes in aviation security regulations which were introduced on 28 April 2010 by the Federal Aviation Authority and the related changes in shipping procedures. For trouble-free transport by air it is not necessary for DPD customers to be approved as 'known consignors'.
Procedure in the DPD network:
Regardless of whether the consignor is registered or not, all airfreight shipments are initially transported within the DPD network with the status 'not secured'. Of course articles which are forbidden by aviation security legislation (LuftSiG) continue to be excluded from transport.
At the export gateway of Frankfurt airport all shipments are transferred to our partner Chronopost. Here the final security check takes place on all airfreight packages. This has the approval of the authorities because Chronopost International Deutschland GmbH is registered both as a 'regulated agent' (registration number DE. RAC. 0527) and as an 'authorised economic operator' = AEO).
In the course of the security check all airfreight parcels are x-rayed using the latest x-ray technology and then transferred to the airline for onward shipping.
This guarantees that all freight shipments comply with security requirements under European and domestic regulations. No further action is required from you as a DPD customer.
Legal framework conditions:
- Only a 'regulated agent' is allowed to ship airfreight without additional security checks by third parties (EU directive (EG) No. 300/2008).
- This status is only allocated to companies whose security system has been checked by the Federal Aviation Authority (LBA).
- Freight can only be transported by air if the airline company ensures that aviation security measures have been complied with in accordance with the relevant laws and directives.
- Documentation of the security checks which are made must be submitted by the airline company or the 'regulated agent' to the Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) (remark SPX e.g. 'by x-ray' on the airway bill).
- If a DPD customer wishes to register as a 'known consignor' an application must be submitted directly to the Federal Aviation Authority.
