Fuel surcharge for kerosene.

 For reasons of speed and the extension of our services to international routes we are also dependent on the aeroplane as a means of transport. For example, intercontinental parcel shipping is only possible by air, but for ecological reasons DPD does not use pure freight aircraft. Instead it transports its parcels to overseas destinations with commercial airlines. In order to factor in the rapid increase in the cost of aircraft fuel we have, since November 2007, charged a kerosene surcharge for air transport. The level of the surcharge can be adjusted upwards and downwards.

Background:

DPD uses a method of calculating the fuel surcharge which is based on the Jet-fuel prices published every calendar month by OPIS (Oil Price Information Service). The basis for the kerosene surcharge is the average monthly spot price for kerosene / aviation fuel (Rotterdam, ARA index) in the region of Europe. Prices are indicated in US cents per American gallon. The kerosene surcharge is on a sliding scale in steps of 0.5%, and is in line with market developments. The basis for the surcharge at any given time is always the average monthly price for the past month, which means that the surcharge is closely linked to the market prices for aviation fuel.

DPD reserves the right to change the reference value of the kerosene surcharge and the surcharge table without prior notice and to determine the level and duration of the fuel surcharge. Information on the fuel surcharge which will apply for any given month is published here and will be available approx. two months before the surcharge comes into effect.

What else do you need to know as a customer?
The surcharge only applies to parcels shipped with the DPD CLASSIC (service table "Intercontinental") and DPD EXPRESS services, which can only be shipped by air, in the process of which kerosene is used instead of diesel. The surcharge is charged on the net cost of the individual shipment.
