12 | 2009 - DPD Nederland presents new ecocombi truck

Parcel and express service provider realizes fuel saving of tens of thousands litres

Best/Meppel, 8 December 2009 – The parcel and express service provider DPD celebrates the launch of the second ecocombi truck in the Netherlands. In Meppel DPD and Holwerda Distribution and Transport officially started the use of the extra long truck that will be driving back and forth between Joure and Best on a daily basis. After introducing the first Dutch ecocombi in January, DPD Nederland now enjoys the use of two vehicles that each save loads of money, ten thousands of litres of fuel and large volumes of CO2 emissions annually.

Robert van Straaten, Director Marketing & Sales of DPD in the Netherlands, officially handed the car keys over to Tjalling Holwerda, founder of Holwerda Distribution and Transport, enabling his drivers from now on to deliver parcels using three swap bodies instead of the regular amount of two. DPD is the first distributor in the Netherlands to work with so-called LZV ecocombis – LZV is a Dutch abbreviation for long heavy vehicle – with swap bodies. The parcel and express service provider will be using this ‘greener’ means of transportation for its 24-hour shifts between Joure and Best, adding up to a total mileage of 220,000 kilometres annually. With an average fuel saving of 33 per cent, environmental and economic benefits of the LZV trucks are significant.

50,000 litres less
Earlier this year DPD introduced its first ecocombi, covering the Best – Rotterdam route. Together, the two trucks cover around 500,000 kilometres a year and doing so realize massive savings of between forty- and fifty thousand litres of fuel. “As a specialist in parcel delivery using the road, we really see the use of ecocombis as a focus point,” says Van Straaten. “The first ecocombi has proven to be a grand success and the launch of this second truck is an important step to progress into international rides with ecocombis as well. If we look at CO2 emissions and costs, road transport is much more efficient than for example delivery through the air. With our ecocombis we can further optimize these savings.” DPD hopes to be able to start international ecocombi rides in 2010.

11 | 2009 - DPD Hungária rolls out international COD service

Financial crisis fuels demand for safe payments, forty percent of parcels are COD

Budapest, 27 November – DPD Hungária Kft. is now offering its tried-and-tested COD service for consignments as an international service. Initially, the company promises to deliver parcels under cash-on-delivery terms between Hungary and Germany. The move was motivated by the increase in demand for COD (Cash on Delivery) services due to the financial crisis, prompting this response from one of the country's leading parcel delivery firms.

The demand for secure and fast payment solutions in the parcel delivery sector is greater too, because the financial crisis has reduced the willingness of customers in this sector to take risks. "Our COD service ensures fast and reliable cash flows, which we guarantee to all our customers every time" - emphasised Csilla Hosszú, managing director of DPD Hungária Kft. "Cash-on-delivery consignments currently make up forty percent of our total delivery volume. The corresponding figure last year was 32 percent."

This dynamic growth stems from the unique features of the COD service. "DPD Hungária Kft. transfers the cash received for consignments delivered in Hungary within 72 hours of receipt, and within 1 week for international parcels" - added the managing director. In Hungary, the normal transfer time for consignments delivered abroad is two weeks.

The DPD cash on delivery service offers a swift money transfer, security and transparency: every stage of the cash on delivery process can be monitored. This results in clarity, which is exactly what customers want.

Germany is the first country where DPD customers in Hungary can send international COD parcels. The reason for choosing Germany is that a substantial number of customers have close business relations with Germany. "Step by step we are meeting the growing demands, and we intend to include new countries into the COD service going forward. Accordingly, in the second half of 2010 we plan to extend the service to Austria and Italy" - revealed Csilla Hosszú.

DPD Hungária Kft. generated growth of twenty percent in 2009 and has similar plans in the pipeline for 2010. In addition to its domestic growth, DPD Hungária Kft. can confidently rely on its international network too, securing a foundation for continued expansion.

"DPD has roughly eight hundred depots across Europe and has the best European operations network" - noted Marek Rozycki, CEE director of DPD’s majority shareholder GeoPost. "This is why we can deliver to 220 countries worldwide, and one third of DPD's consignments are international deliveries. At the same time, the rapid and reliable European road service is environmentally friendly too, as the harmful emissions of air deliveries are eight times as high."

11 | 2009 - Merger between Swedish and Danish postal services strengthens DPD and opens up new growth opportunities

Aschaffenburg, 16th of November 2009 – Following a longlasting partnership with the Swedish Post DPD has now become partner to the new Posten Norden in most Scandinavian countries. Now that the final hurdles posed by anti-cartel legislation have been overcome DPD, the international provider of parcel and express services, is working closely together with the newly founded Posten Norden postal service in northern Europe.

Posten Norden has been created by a merger between the Danish and Swedish postal services, the latter of which was a longstanding DPD partner. “We now have an even stronger major partner for the big four northern-European countries and have effectively reinforced our position in Scandinavia”, confirms DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. “This opens up new and attractive prospects for the further expansion of our operations in this region, due to the broad range of services Posten Norden is offering.

In order to prevent any negative effects on free competition the European Commission had made it a condition for the merger that in Denmark DPD and the Danish postal service should dispose of a small number of specific assets and contracts in the B2B sector. This precondition was met with the recent disposal of customer contacts and one depot. DPD's operations in Denmark will be continued unchanged with its new partner, which has been strengthened by the merger. DPD Denmark will continue as before to implement its partner's B2B services in Denmark, with products, services and customer contacts remaining under the DPD brand.

International parcel and express service provider DPD has been operating in Scandinavia since 1996, and the cooperation with Sweden's postal service has been in place since 2001. Over the years the company has registered continuous growth in its parcel shipments to and from northern Europe.

"This initial merger between two postal services in Europe represents a ground-breaking development for the whole industry and may turn out to be the model for further mergers", comments Mr Schroven. "DPD has only benefited from the development and was involved as a partner throughout the entire process."

10 | 2009 - Two new DPD Continental depots begin operations in India

Aschaffenburg / Bangalore / Chennai, 20 October 2009 – DPD Continental has now opened two new depots in India, which considerably extends the company's network in the south of the sub-continent. The joint enterprise operated by DPD majority shareholder GeoPost, the express and parcels holding company of France's La Poste, together with Continental Air Express, which is part of the Continental Carriers Group, has identified the metropolitan regions of Bangalore and Chennai as the principal growth markets in India. Since the beginning of October the company has established a presence in both centres with a depot of its own.

After successfully creating a base for itself in Delhi and Mumbai, DPD Continental is now entering on a phase of expansion, with particular focus on the business centres of Bangalore and Chennai.

As India's IT capital Bangalore offers DPD Continental just as promising growth opportunities as Chennai, the former Madras, which is home to a large part of India's electronics industry as well as a large number of mechanical engineering companies and textile manufacturers. "Our involvement in India is an important building block in the ongoing development of our attractive intercontinental CLASSIC service. With the current expansion of DPD's parcel operations in India we are optimising access to the Indian market for our customers with DPD's reliable quality standards, and at the same time coming closer to our Indian customers", explains DPD CEO Arnold Schroven.

At present DPD Continental is concentrating on the import and export of parcel shipments to and from India, and has set itself the aim of providing its customers with especially simple and reliable shipping solutions. In addition to its own infrastructure DPD Continental uses the capacities of the Continental Carriers Group, which has been operating on India's transport market for 52 years now.

10 | 2009 - DPD Netherlands continues cooperation with Dorel, Helly Hansen and Herbalife

Best, 30 September 2009 – This month DPD Netherlands signed follow-up contracts with three important customers worth several million Euros. The coming years the parcel and express service provider continues to work for Dorel, producer of baby and child safety products, sportswear manufacturer Helly Hansen and health specialist Herbalife.

These follow-up contracts are good examples of current developments at DPD according to Michaël van Ooijen: “Despite the current economic situation, DPD has been able to realise its financial targets. We even perform above expectations.” Although we are still seeing a decline in parcel volumes, especially with our current clients, we have been able to compensate this by attracting new customers.

The cooperation between DPD and Dorel, producer of baby and child safety products such as the Maxi Cosi baby seat, makes the difference through smart use of parcel labeling in Europe. The cooperation is extended until 2011. It includes all multi colli shipments in Northern, Eastern and Western Europe and a possible expansion to Southern Europe and the B2C market.

Michel Clabbers, Demand Manager at Dorel Europe: “Our logistical model results in shipments of relatively high numbers of parcels per customer. In order to prevent expensive pallet shipments which are only half full, we developed a custom made program for parcel labeling. We can print labels for international shipments that meet requirements of Dorel, DPD and our receiving customers within one hour. This speeds up the logistical process and results in cost advantages. After an extensive tender in which we compared possible candidates on service, costs and a European mindset, we concluded that DPD clearly would be the best partner.”

Herbalife, a DPD client since 2002, extended its contract with one year. As part of the cooperation DPD will take care of parcel shipment to consumers in eight countries in Europe. Sjaak Timmermans, Manager Transportation EMEA at Herbalife: “It is vital that consumer parcels have a reliable time of delivery. Stores are open all day and therefore able to work with flexible delivery times. But nothing is more annoying for customers than having to wait for a delivery. We chose DPD since they could guarantee us a fast and precise time of delivery.”

DPD’s service for Helly Hansen, sportswear manufacturer, goes beyond standard shopping areas. DPD delivers clothing, shoes and accessories in the biggest shopping centers of fourteen European countries, on the ski slopes in Austria and at French beaches. After accomplishing good results areas across Europe since late 2007, Helly Hansen decided to extend its B2B cooperation with DPD for another year, with an option to expand to B2C delivery later this year.

09 | 2009 - DPD Estonia opened Internet Ordering Centre

New service also includes contract-free ordering for private customers

Tallinn, 16 September 2009 – DPD Estonia opened an Internet-based ordering service that provides easy and convenient ordering, payment via bank link, and sending of parcels also for non-contracted business and private customers. Parcels or envelopes can now be sent through the new web page www.pakivedu.ee to Estonia as well as Europe.

DPD Estonia is continually investing in info-technological solutions for the transportation of goods in order to offer contemporary courier services to all, including private customers. ‘The newly opened Ordering Centre is an important part of the expansion of the new service portfolio,’ states Janek Kivimurd, head of sales and marketing in DPD.

‘DPD Ordering Centre is on one hand meant to offer quick online ordering for contracted clients; on the other hand it is there to help small and private customers order convenient and fast courier services,’ says Kivimurd. DPD has developed an Ordering Centre which allows customers to send goods without leaving their home or office. ‘It couldn’t be easier to send goods to either Estonia or abroad – order the courier online, pay via bank link, and the courier will pick up the goods at specified location. In addition, the web environment permits one to manage both orders and invoices,’ explains Kivimurd.

The aim of the new online centre is to offer everybody, business as well as private customers, a contemporary and convenient courier service. ‘An envelope or a parcel may be sent from Võru to Kärdla, Tartu to London – and it can all be done online, fast and comfortably,’ Kivimurd illustrates.

The development process of the Ordering Centre began with the specification and expansion of the business concept and a strong IT platform. ‘From the online Ordering Centre the orders pass to the couriers’ hand held scanners, and that will allow for effective and precise handling of the orders. A more contemporary, dependable and convenient courier service is now more accessible than ever,’ Kivimurd comments.

The online address of the DPD Ordering Centre is www.pakivedu.ee

09 | 2009 - United Kingdom: DPD achieves ISO 14001 certification

West Midlands, 14 September 2009 – DPD UK has just been accredited with the internationally-recognised environmental management standard ISO 14001, and is one of the first parcel carriers to achieve this. What is particularly impressive is that the Standard has been achieved right across the business, in every one of DPD UK’s 42 depots, hub and transport and all central departments.

“ISO 14001 is the international measure of environmental management and having this independent assessment is a powerful statement of our environmental credentials” says CEO Dwain McDonald. “To have gained this accreditation in just eight months is a remarkable achievement. “We know our employees want us to be environmentally responsible and this is also of increasing importance to our customers, so it’s a win-win situation. ISO 14001 is another way in which DPD will stand out from the crowd, and be seen to be operating at a higher level.”

The parcel carrier has a strong focus on the environment, including a robust Corporate Social Responsibility programme “Outside the Box”, focussed on energy and fuel reduction. This contributed to the company winning a top award for environmental improvement presented by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

DPD is also known for its environmental credentials through its investment in double-decker vehicles carrying 1/3rd more parcels than their single-decker counterparts, meaning fewer vehicles on the road and reduced emissions. The company constantly creates innovative services such as interactive advance text notification of delivery, so that more customers are available to receive their parcel, meaning less return journeys to re-attempt delivery, fewer miles travelled with less fuel used and fewer emissions.

For customers sending parcels across Europe, DPD offers the most comprehensive by- road service available on the market, giving customers the advantage of saving up to five times the cost of air freight and volume of greenhouse gases created is up to eight times lower. 08 | 2009 - DPD Switzerland delivers the goods: evening home deliveries now for coop@home customers

Dübendorf, August 2009 – On Monday, 17 August, just in time for the end of the holidays, DPD Switzerland launched an innovative new service – for customers of coop@home, the Coop online supermarket, the logistics company is now delivering their shopping to the door in the evening. Beginning with the cantons of Thurgau and Schaffhausen coop@home now offers home deliveries between 18 and 21 hrs Monday to Friday for orders placed by 17:00 hrs on the same day.

Thanks to DPD Switzerland, the top private express and parcel service provider in Switzerland, the approx. 130'000 households in these two cantons can now benefit from evening delivery of their shopping with coop@home. After placing the commission for the building of its new national logistics centre in Buchs ZH and the conclusion of a contract with GastroSuisse for cooperation with hotels and restaurants for the delivery of parcels, DPD Switzerland is taking a further major step towards enhancing its services and the quality of life of its customers.

DPD Switzerland is the leading private service provider on the Swiss parcels market. DPD has a workforce of 700 and operates 12 logistics centres in Switzerland. As part of the international DPD network the company offers not just the fast, secure and reliable transport of parcels of up to 35 kg within Switzerland, but also shipping to 220 countries right around the world.

07 | 2009 - DPD Switzerland and GastroSuisse sign cooperation agreement

Dübendorf/Zürich, 22 July 2009 – DPD Switzerland, the number-one private parcel service on the Swiss domestic market, and GastroSuisse, Switzerland's leading national association for hotels and restaurants, have signed a cooperation contract for the establishment of a countrywide DPD PARCELSHOP network in Swiss hotels and restaurants. From January 2010 new DPD PARCELSHOPS will be available to the public in around 200 locations. The aim over the next 3 to 5 years is to set up a total of 1000 locations throughout the country where parcels can be picked up or handed in for shipment.

The benefits of the DPD PARCELSHOPS: both private and business shippers can send off or pick up parcels outside of office hours and at the weekend somewhere nearby – at hotels and restaurants which are suited to accepting and handing out parcels and have specially trained staff. The priority for DPD Switzerland is customer friendliness and providing a professional and reliable shipping service at competitive prices.

Klaus Künzli, Central President of GastroSuisse, confirms the benefits of the new DPD PARCELSHOPS for both consumers and the members of his association: "With its approximately 21,000 members GastroSuisse is aware of its economic and business responsibilities. We are responsive to the dynamism of social and business developments and we launch and promote business initiatives which are future oriented. In an age of general mobility the DPD PARCELSHOPS offer the public reliable facilities for collecting and sending off parcels at any time, while at the same time providing our members with new earnings opportunities."

For Georges Champoud, General Director of DPD Switzerland, the important factor is that with this project private enterprise is showing its ability to make use of existing infrastructures to provide an up-to-date, value-added service for which many people have been waiting. "In GastroSuisse we have found a partner which has exactly what we expect in terms of corporate culture and efficiency. We are looking forward to the cooperation. We always aim to do our best for our customers and we are convinced that our partner will do the same."

07 | 2009 - DPD in Germany: ISOLDE sustainably delivers 1,000,000 parcels

Nuremberg, 09 July 2009 – As part of ISOLDE, the Nuremberg inner city logistics scheme, DPD today carried out the environmentally-friendly delivery of the millionth DPD parcel to the city's pedestrian area. The use of electrically-powered vehicles enables DPD to provide customers in Nuremberg's inner city with optimised services in a sustainable manner.

DPD has been making environmentally-friendly deliveries in Europe's largest pedestrian area since the end of 2000. As a result an average of 500 parcels a day reach their consignees in Nuremberg without generating any emissions. Deliveries are made with two electric vehicles which are supplied with energy from power sources at special garage facilities. As there is no limit to the time these electric vehicles can operate in the inner city, this gives them a major advantage compared to conventional delivery vehicles, which are not allowed to enter the pedestrian area after 10.30 in the morning. As a result DPD customers benefit from an all-day delivery and pickup service. No less than 1,000,000 parcels have so far been delivered in this way by DPD. In the process more than 51 tonnes of CO2 have been saved compared to deliveries by diesel-powered vehicles.

ISOLDE stands for „Innerstädtischer Service mit Optimierten Logistischen Dienstleistungen für den Einzelhandel“ (inner-city service with optimised logistics services for the retail trade) and was set up as an experimental scheme at the end of the Nineties by a number of CEP services and freight forwarders, with the support of the state of Bavaria and the city of Nuremberg.

The aim was to reduce the pressure of delivery vehicles on the Nuremberg inner city and to reduce exhaust emissions. After the end of the pilot project DPD was the only one of its initiators to continue the concept – a decision which has paid off, not just against the background of the possible introduction of an environmental zone in Nuremberg. DPD intends to continue its commitment to the concept, which has proved outstandingly successful with regard to economy, ecology and popularity with customers.

07 | 2009 - DPD in Germany begins operations at new depot in Loxstedt

Loxstedt / Aschaffenburg, 7 July 2009 – After a construction period of several months international parcel and service provider DPD has now opened its new depot in Loxstedt near Bremerhaven in Northern Germany. Thanks to its state-of-the-art conveyor technology the new facility in the Stotel district is well prepared to deal with rising parcel volumes. Its proximity to the A 27 motorway, the Weser tunnel and the planned coastal highway ensure excellent transport links.

"The location in Loxstedt is an important building block in the expansion of our network," states DPD depot manager Hartmut Elixmann, "because in spite of the recession DPD is continuing to expand and with this new depot it guarantees companies in this region closeness to the customer in every sense of the word – early deliveries and later pick-up times speak for themselves."

On an overall area of 12,182 m² a sorting centre with more than 50 loading and unloading gates has been established in Loxstedt. At the depot, which replaces the previous facility in Bremerhaven, up to 10,000 parcels a day can be sorted and handled. The move to Loxstedt has meant an increase of 10 per cent in the workforce, which currently numbers around 40 people. Additional jobs are planned for a further phase of expansion, in which the sorting capacity of the depot could be doubled.

In the course of the building work DPD had to overcome the loss of its original investor, who was no longer able to meet his financial commitments. In spite of this DPD, Germany's leading parcel service provider for business customers, continued with the project, finding a new investor and as a result ensuring orders for local contractors to a value of 1.5 million euros. The overall investment was over two million euros. "Regardless of the unfavourable economic conditions DPD is continuing to invest in its network and in doing so is laying the foundations for ongoing successful development," adds Mr Elixmann.

07 | 2009 - DPD launches operations in India

Aschaffenburg/New Delhi, 2 July 2009 – DPD Parcel Services are from now on available in India. DPD Continental, a joint venture, founded by DPD majority shareholder GeoPost and its Indian partner Continental Air Express, enables international parcel and express service provider DPD to extend its network to the Indian subcontinent.

The recently approved joint-venture will have its headquarters in the Indian capital New Delhi and commence its services initially in the country's main business centres. In addition to Delhi and Mumbai the service will also be available by the end of the year in Bangalore, Chennai and Calcutta. As part of its worldwide alliances DPD had in the past already offered a service to India. "But now we are directly represented with the DPD brand on India's growing market, and will be able to expand our service portfolio there step by step," explains DPD CEO Arnold Schroven, adding: "In establishing the DPD parcel service on the Indian subcontinent we will set high quality benchmarks on the Indian market and provide customers in Europe with access to the Indian market backed by DPD's reliable quality standards."

GeoPost, the express and parcel holding company of France's La Poste and the majority shareholder in DPD, owns 60% of the shares in the joint enterprise. The remaining 40% is held by Continental Carriers Group, which is owned by India's Vohra family. The CEO of DPD Continental Pvt. Ltd. will be Indian manager Gautam Nath, who has more than 20 years of management experience in India's transport and logistics industry. Initially the company will concentrate on the export and import of parcel shipments.

"Thanks to DPD Continental we are now directly represented with our service in the fourth BRICS state," remarks Wolfgang Lehmacher, who is responsible on the GeoPost board of management for intercontinental expansion and laid the groundwork for the joint venture in India.
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) are counted among the countries with the greatest growth potential worldwide. "After Russia, China and South Africa this joint venture in India with an efficient partner secures our presence on one of the world's most important markets," adds Mr. Lehmacher.

06 | 2009 - Internationally the economic and financial crisis is creating a boom in C.O.D. shipments

Aschaffenburg/Prague, 23rd June 2009 – DPD is expanding its C.O.D. service to the rest of Europe. Since 1st of June it has been possible to ship C.O.D. parcels domestically in Romania and Estonia, while international C.O.D. shipments are now also available between Germany and the Czech Republic.

The worldwide economic and financial crisis is creating a major increase in demand for parcel shipping services which offer security of payment. DPD has experienced this particularly in the countries of Eastern and Southern Europe, and in some countries C.O.D. shipments now account for up to 20 per cent of the volumes transported by the international parcel and express service provider.

"We noticed this trend as early as last year, which prompted us to drive forward the expansion of our C.O.D. service", states DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. In the process DPD benefits from two unique features when it comes to C.O.D. shipping: fast transfer of the collected payments and a high level of transparency provided by online financial histories. "For domestic shipments DPD transfers payment at the latest 48 hours after delivery", confirms Mr Schroven. "In the case of international shipments, including transport to non-euro countries such as the Czech Republic, the transfer is made at the latest after 72 hours."

In addition DPD is the only parcel and express service provider which enables customers to check the financially relevant details of their shipment online, together with the standard parcel tracking service. On the basis of this financial history shippers can see, for example, when the DPD driver collected the C.O.D. amount in cash or as a crossed cheque, and when the money was transferred.

DPD is currently offering a domestic C.O.D. service in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Estonia, Croatia, Romania, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. Individual national C.O.D. solutions are furthermore established almost across the whole DPD network in Europe. International C.O.D. services are already in place between Germany, Benelux and Austria, as well as between Germany and the Czech Republic. There are plans to launch an international C.O.D. service to and from additional non-euro countries for the second half of the year.

In July, DPD (Pegasus) Romania plans to launch DPD C.O.D (Cash on delivery), a service particularly targeting the e-commerce sector which is expected to grow consistently in Romania in the next period. The service offers the possibility of shipping parcels with reimbursement anywhere in Europe and is created specially for online shopping providers. By the end of the year, DPD plans to implement other products and services with added value from the international portfolio aiming to permanently increase the quality offered to its customers.

The new service will be available mainly in the conurbations of the Benelux states and can be supplemented by a range of service options. For example parcels can now be shipped COD, while proactive notification by text message is also possible: "This new service, too, is implemented via the DPD road network in Europe and once more demonstrates the capacity and efficiency of this network. In addition transport by road is up to five times less expensive than airfreight, which also generates something like eight times more CO2 emissions", comments DPD CEO Arnold Schroven.

After the successful establishment of the DPD 12:00 and DPD 18:00 services for cross-border parcel shipping to and from the Benelux states in 2008, DPD is rounding off its existing express portfolio. With this service DPD is now offering its customers the same level of quality which they have come to expect from the company's domestic express services within Germany.

05 | 2009 - Now also available in the Baltics: DPD extends its 'New delivery' service

In ten European countries a service portal enables consignees to make whatever arrangement is most convenient for the repeat delivery of their parcels

Aschaffenburg, 28 May 2009 – In Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia consignees who are not located at home when DPD first delivers their parcel can now conveniently and flexibly give instructions online for the repeat delivery. Right round the clock a portal especially created for this purpose enables them to select from a range of options for the new delivery. DPD has now extended this highly popular service solution to ten European countries within the DPD network. The 'New delivery' is based on a development of DPD in Austria and is currently also in operation in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland and the three Benelux countries.

Using the 'New delivery' portal it now takes consignees in the Baltic States only a few clicks of the mouse to fix a new date for the delivery of their parcel. And just as in the other participating countries it is also possible to have the shipment delivered to a different address – for example to the consignee's place of work.

With its 'New delivery' portal DPD has developed a solution which is a convenient response to the needs of its customers and consignees on a wide range of markets. The extension of the service is of equal benefit to both consignors and consignees, to business customers as well as private customers, because thanks to the new portal goods reach their destination even faster and more reliably. Shippers within the whole DPD network can now provide their customers on the expanding Baltic markets with an even more comprehensive service, offering them more delivery options and flexibility.

Of course it will continue to be possible for customers to arrange repeat deliveries by phone. And if consignees don't decide to take advantage of this new option for organising the repeat delivery of their parcels themselves, DPD will as usual make its maximum of three delivery attempts.

04 | 2009 - Continued growth at DPD Ukraine

Kiev / Aschaffenburg 22 April 2009 – Parcel and express service provider DPD is further expanding its comprehensive network in the Ukraine. A new terminal in Kiev and a depot in Dnepropetrovsk have been opened in April. Four additional depots are due for completion this year. The objective is to make the network even denser and reduce the distance to the customer. The year 2009 will also see the launch of international shipping from the Ukraine.

Since it was founded in 2007 the company has more than tripled its shipping volumes. The new central sorting facility has now doubled its operating capacity with almost 2000 sq. m. With 28 depots and representative offices DPD Ukraine already covers 20,000 towns in the country's 25 regions. Covering an area of 603,700 square kilometres the Ukraine is almost twice the size of Germany.

"As a result of this expansion DPD Ukraine will play an increasingly important role within the international DPD network", comments DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "We expect this year to start international parcel shipping in the Ukraine, too." This means that customers will be able to import shipments from the Ukraine in DPD quality. Up till now DPD Ukraine has concentrated on the transport of domestic shipments.

"The Ukraine is another milestone in the expansion of the DPD network", explains Mr Schroven. He points out that whereas other international parcel and express service generally start up their operations in a new country with a few central hubs from which they then distribute international shipments, DPD operates on a decentral basis, adapting its services to local requirements. He adds: "This means we can establish close relationships with customers on a local basis, build up larger shipping volumes and offer good value for money."

DPD Ukraine is joint enterprise involving on the one hand France's GeoPost and Turkish provider of express services Yurtiçi Kargo (which together hold 51% of the shares) and on the other Ukraine's UVK with 49%. The new depots will begin operations in L’viv, Simferopol, Zaporizhia and Ternopil.

04 | 2009 - DPD launches service offensive in Romania

Bucharest / Aschaffenburg, 20 April 2009 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is decisively extending its service range in Romania, with pickup and exchange services, COD deliveries and a network of parcel shops being set up step by step. "This means that we can now offer products and services in Romania which have been established successfully on other markets and for which our Romanian partners are experiencing growing demand," explains DPD CEO Arnold Schroven.

In April DPD started its exchange service in Romania. The shipment of COD parcels will be tested with a number of pilot customers. When the test phase has been completed in May the service will be made available to all of DPD's customers in Romania from June. DPD attaches great importance to transferring to shippers the COD amounts which are collected as fast as possible, in a process which is as transparent as possible. DPD operates the only parcels network in which all stages of the financial transaction connected with a COD shipment can be tracked by the consignor on the internet.

In February the pickup service has already been extended, with the result that regular customers can now have parcels collected not just from their own location but also from any other addresses in Romania and elsewhere in Europe. This means that Romanian shippers can arrange for a parcel to be picked up in London and then have it shipped to Frankfurt or Bucharest, with the entire ordering process taking place online. In addition DPD customers have online access to their shipment data and the progress of their parcels at all times.

The company, owned to a majority by GeoPost Yurtici Kargo since March 2008, currently still operates under the name of Pegasus, but will take over the DPD brand in the course of 2009.

04 | 2009 - DPD in Russia announces 31% turnover growth in 2008

Moscow, April 14th, 2009 – At a press-conference in Moscow DPD in Russia announced a 31% growth of its 2008 consolidated turnover compared to 2007. In 2008 DPD in Russia delivered 4.5 million parcels on behalf of thousands of customers throughout Russia. The total weight carried exceeded 120,000 tons.

In 2008 the portfolio of transportation logistics services offered by DPD in Russia was further extended with DPD 13:00, a time-certain domestic delivery solution, as well as by added-value services like SMS Alert, DPD Packaging and Parcel Loading / Unloading options. The coverage of DPD CLASSIC international service was expanded to 220 countries worldwide. All these enhancements are tailored to customer requirements and make it even more convenient and easier for customers to do business with DPD in Russia.

2008 saw further dynamic expansion of the branch network of DPD in Russia: by the end of 2008, the total number of cities where DPD has own branches in Russia summed up to 31. All DPD branches in Russia are linked by a common IT system as well as by the unique high-capacity ground transportation network. In each branch customers can take advantage of a broad range of DPD services based on a unique express forwarding approach.

In 2008, DPD in Russia fully revised its Internet presence, making available more comprehensive, accessible and simple information about its products, services and the company itself at www.dpd.ru. The screen design of the site, which is uniform worldwide, reflects DPD’s strong international brand identity.

The positive development of DPD in Russia was crowned with the award of the "Company of the Year 2008" prize in the Contribution to Industry Progress (Transportation and Forwarding Services)" special nomination. This prize presented by leading media and internet company RBC, is Russia's premier business award.

“Throughout 2008 we continued to develop our business and infrastructure: our regional network was further expanded, our turnover increased and the service portfolio was complemented with new products and options. Even in the challenging economic environment, all these efforts allowed DPD in Russia to strengthen its leading positions on the Russian transportation logistics market. We are confident that our business development strategy will enable us to continue to be successful in the future and to be in a position to offer our customers optimum value-for-money solutions adapted to the new economic situation”, comments Nikolay Voinov, General Director of DPD in Russia.

04 | 2009 - DPD in Russia expands its regional network: a new depot opened in Togliatti

Togliatti, 6 April 2009 – DPD in Russia continues the expansion of its regional network. A new depot is opened in Togliatti, Volga Region.

The city of Togliatti is a major industrial centre which plays a significant role in the economy of Samara region and Russia as a whole. This role is facilitated by the well developed automotive, engineering, chemical and construction industries. The products manufactured by Togliatti companies are distributed across Russia and exported to more than 90 countries worldwide.

Being an important transportation hub Togliatti is strategically located on M5 highway connecting the European part of Russia and the country’s eastern areas – the Urals, Siberia and Far East. The highway is also used for international freight transportation between Europe and Asia.

In view of economic and geographic importance of the city, DPD in Russia opened a depot in the north-western part of Togliatti, in the immediate proximity to the route connecting the city to the M5 highway. The total depot area is 300 sq. m., the capacity is up to 300 parcels a day. Similar to all the other depots of DPD in Russia, the new depot is linked to the entire DPD regional network by a common IT system as well as by a unique high-capacity ground transportation network.

The standard range of services offered by DPD in Russia is available in the new depot: DPD BIZPAK solution (unique domestic just-in-time delivery with unmatched financial guarantees), cost-effective DPD ECONOMY domestic parcel and freight ground distribution service, international DPD CLASSIC delivery and other solutions.

“Today a lot of businesses need to seek economies of their transportation logistics budgets. With this understanding in mind, our objective is to offer customers quality delivery solutions at optimised cost. Therefore our opening the Togliatti depot is more than a planned expansion of the regional network. This is a timely response to our customers’ requirements since the depot makes it possible to offer customers terminal-to-terminal delivery solutions achieving significant savings compared to door-to-door service”, noted Leonid Zondberg, Commercial Director of DPD in Russia.

03 | 2009 - DPD majority shareholder GeoPost announces a consolidated turnover of 3.292 billion euros in 2008

Aschaffenburg / Paris, 23th March 2009 – DPD majority shareholder GeoPost, subsidiary of the French La Poste Group and a major player on the European market for express B to B services, generated a consolidated turnover figure of 3.292 billion euros in 2008, excluding exchange rate and perimeter variations, up by 7.1% compared to 2007.

In 2008, GeoPost reinforced its position in Central and Eastern Europe. In March GeoPost acquired a majority stake in Pegasus, a Rumanian company employing 150 staff members. In April GeoPost took a majority shareholding in DPD Ukraine in order to offer an express delivery service and a domestic and international parcel service. With its Turkish partner Yurtiçi Kargo, GeoPost acquired in Kazakhstan a majority shareholding in GeoPost Caspian, renamed DPD Kazakhstan, a company based in Almaty. In May GeoPost signed an agreement with the Austrian Group Lagermax, a logistics specialist, for the purchase of all their shares in DPD Bosnia, DPD Croatia, DPD Slovenia and DPD Serbia.

"These acquisitions by our parent company considerably expanded the DPD network in 2008 and effectively extended the strength of the DPD brand to new countries", states Arnold Schroven, DPD CEO. "DPD isn't a network that stands still - instead it constantly facilitates access to new markets on behalf of its customers."

As for sustainable development, GeoPost accentuated its commitment to environmental issues by assessing the Carbon Footprint of its European subsidiaries.

In volume terms, 2008 saw GeoPost confirm its position as N°2 in Europe and N°1 on the French market with over 550 million parcels delivered worldwide on behalf of 300,000 customers.

02 | 2009 - DPD positions itself in the logistics hub of Dubai

Aschaffenburg / Dubai, 25 February 2009 – DPD, the international provider of parcel and express services has, with the establishment of DPD UAE, expanded its network in the Gulf region and strengthened its intercontinental shipping services.

DPD UAE, which has been on the market since early 2008, is based in Dubai. In the course of the past year the company has been integrated into the international DPD network and linked to DPD's worldwide IT and performance standards. "This reinforces our parcel network and brand presence in one of the world's major logistics hubs", states DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "With its attractive delivery times and outstanding value for money our intercontinental DPD CLASSIC service represents a cost-optimised alternative to international express shipping, especially during times of economic hardship. DPD UAE is an important building block in further strengthening the competitive advantage offered by our CLASSIC service in intercontinental shipping."

DPD UAE is a joint enterprise owned by DPD majority shareholder GeoPost and the Kanoo Group, one of the Gulf region's largest independent, family-operated corporations.

"Setting up our own structure in the Gulf region is part of a differentiated internationalisation strategy which today enables us to offer a worldwide service", explains Wolfgang Lehmacher, member of the GeoPost management board with responsibility for worldwide expansion. "In our core countries, in Europe especially, we prefer to be represented by our own subsidiaries. On the other hand, in regions where there is strong development we rely on the kind of joint enterprise we have recently established in the UAE."

Shipping to the rest of the world is implemented via cooperation agreements with selected partners, enabling DPD to ship to 230 countries worldwide at the present time.

02 | 2009 - DPD now offers express service between Switzerland, Germany and Benelux

Aschaffenburg, 23 February 2009

  • Next working-day delivery for parcels and shipments of goods, customs clearance included
  • Delivery by 12:00 hrs to Zurich and Basle areas
  • Road network shipping up to five times less expensive than express airfreight - CO2 emissions eight times lower

Parcel and express service provider DPD has now extended its express shipping network to Switzerland, enabling customers to ship parcels with guaranteed delivery times not only between Germany and Switzerland but also between the Benelux countries and Switzerland. "The ongoing optimisation of our network makes it possible for us to expand our service continuously", says DPD CEO Arnold Schroven, adding: "The special advantage of our solution is that DPD can use its efficient, highly advanced road network for its international express shipping operations, too. This is up to five times less expensive than sending parcels by air, while causing only about one eighth of the CO2 emissions."

A further benefit offered by the service is the fact that the shipment of express parcels between Switzerland and Germany or Benelux includes customs clearance. Accordingly the guaranteed delivery times to Switzerland – either by 12 hrs or by 18 hrs the next working day* – apply just as much to dutiable goods shipments as they do to documents which are not subject to customs duty.

"We have experienced strong growth in the express segment. Our express operations represent an excellent possibility for providing a more comprehensive service to our customers, enabling us to exploit further areas of potential growth", states CEO Schroven. As a result the express segment has become an essential part of DPD's overall strategy.

* The guaranteed delivery times vary from region to region. In business centres such as Basle or Zurich delivery by 12 hrs is possible, while deliveries to other regions are made by 18 hrs. These delivery times cover a large part of the goods flows from Germany to Switzerland, while a guaranteed 48-hour service is still available for the more remote areas of the country.

02 | 2009 - DPD China and Forward Group launch cooperation in China

Aschaffenburg / Hong Kong, 17 February 2009

  • DPD intends to become the European parcel service of choice for Chinese manufacturers
  • Depot Raunheim is central gateway for Germany – direct flights from China to Frankfurt

After a successful trial run last year DPD China and Hong Kong's Forward Group have now concluded a cooperation agreement. The aim of the two companies is to set up joint operations on the Chinese express parcels market, where they plan to combine their forces, build up additional market share and further reinforce the DPD brand in China.

The main aim of the cooperation is to provide a wider range of Chinese shippers with access to DPD's worldwide network. The partners intend to concentrate on solutions for customers who produce in China and wish to distribute their wares in Europe by parcel service.

The gateway for imports to Germany from China will be the DPD location in Raunheim near Frankfurt. "Raunheim has always been the main consolidation point for all of DPD's intercontinental shipments from and to Germany", confirms Arnold Schroven, CEO of DPD. "Thanks to this import solution with FWG these volumes are now so large that shipments from China will arrive in Frankfurt by direct flight and will then be distributed throughout Germany from here." DPD offers its customers an all-round solution, which also includes customs clearance of shipments.

02 | 2009 - DPD in Russia continues to grow

Aschaffenburg, 02 February 2009 – The opening of a new depot in Belgorod a few days ago marks a further significant stage in the ongoing expansion of DPD in Russia. The branch in Belgorod is DPD in Russia’s 32nd. This follows the successful launch at the end of 2008 of a new time-specific express service, which is tailored to customer requirements. The company's commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed, and a few weeks ago DPD in Russia was awarded the accolade of "Company of the Year 2008" in the Transportation and Forwarding Services section.

To reinforce its presence in central Russia even further DPD in Russia has opened a new depot in Belgorod, which started to operate on 26 January 2009. With its population of 350,000 Belgorod is strategically located on the junction of highways from the north to the south and from the east to the west of Russia. More than 5,000 parcels a day can be processed at the depot on an area of over 520 m2.

Customers in Belgorod will also soon be able to take advantage of the DPD 13:00 service, which has been available country-wide since the end of last year. Well over 100 routes within Russia are served by DPD 13:00, ranging from the European section of the country right across to the Far East. In most areas delivery is effected by 13.00 hrs the following working day, with delivery by 13.00 hrs on the next working day but one available on some extremely long routes. As part of the new service DPD in Russia is offering its customers extensive financial guarantees, including a money-back guarantee if delivery is not made on time. "We're pleased that all our customers can now benefit from the advantages of our new service, and we intend to continue with the expansion of our product spectrum and logistics solutions within Russia", comments Nikolay Voinov, General Director of DPD in Russia.

These efforts and the positive development of DPD in Russia have now been crowned with the award a few weeks ago of the "Company of the Year 2008" prize in the "Contribution to Industry Progress (Transportation and Forwarding Services)" special nomination. This prize, which is presented by leading media and internet company RBC Information Systems, is Russia's premier business award.

01 | 2009 - New website reflects DPD's international brand identity

Aschaffenburg, 28 January 2009 – International parcel and express service provider DPD has now fully revised its internet presence, making available more comprehensive, accessible and simple information about its products, services and the company itself at www.dpd.com. The screen design of the site, which is uniform worldwide, reflects DPD's strong international brand identity.

Reduced to only four sections and with optimised navigation, the DPD site now provides an information base which is targeted in particular at the needs of shippers. In addition to descriptions of the available products and services customers have access to useful guidelines about parcel shipping with DPD, together with the various shipping options and the relevant benefits, requirements and processing. "With this well-organised, user-friendly internet site, which is tailored specifically to the needs of our customers, we aim to highlight our status as a customer-focussed and service-oriented provider of parcel and express services on the internet, too", states John Acton, Managing Director of DPD Dynamic Parcel Distrbution GmbH & Co. KG, commenting on the objectives behind the relaunch.

Uniform worldwide presence with country-specific information services
The website integrates all the online services which DPD offers its customers in the individual countries of the network. For example, on the individual country pages for Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland shippers can, simply by entering their address, postcode or town, find the nearest DPD Parcel-Shop or their local depot. Thanks to the cooperation with the Map24 internet service the route to the relevant destination can also be displayed, if required.

Research made easy
In revising its website DPD has created an information portal which benefits not just the customer but also journalists, for example, who now have access to an improved service, including a photographic data base with optimised download functions. The service is rounded off by comprehensive background information about the company and its history, as well as about the major figures in DPD worldwide.
