DPD is committed to nationwide parcel delivery – including in peripheral regions

Buchs, 21 July 2025. DPD Switzerland welcomes the revision of the Swiss Postal Services Ordinance proposed by the Federal Council. The change is intended to enable Swiss Post to make basic services fit for the future – both economically and technologically. DPD will continue to deliver and collect parcels throughout Switzerland – including the 60’000 households outside the residential area affected by the planned regulations.

Swiss Post is to be given more flexibility in the home delivery of letters, parcels and daily newspapers and invest in digital alternatives to traditional letter mail. The Federal Council put a corresponding revision of the Postal Services Ordinance out to consultation on 16 April 2025. It should now be possible for Swiss Post to stop serving individual remote households if the extra delivery route is more than two minutes away from the nearest settlement.

DPD Switzerland expressly supports this revision. Swiss Post will gain the leeway it wants to optimise its core services and develop digital alternatives to traditional letter mail, which is losing its pre-eminence as time goes by. Long transition periods are also envisaged.

Unlike letters, parcel delivery cannot be digitised. However, private providers guarantee a reliable service even in remote areas. DPD delivers to all households affected by the planned regulation – almost everywhere every day.

‘DPD is investing in micro-depots in peripheral regions and in collaboration with local transport partners in order to deliver a comprehensive service in the long term. For a flat rate of five francs, we also offer parcel collection from your doorstep – even outside residential areas. We are expanding in rural areas, not cutting back. The revision of the ordinance provides clarity and helps us to plan,’ says Tilmann Schultze, CEO of DPD Switzerland.
