To ensure that your parcel can be processed correctly and delivered on time, certain size and weight limits must be observed. Here you can find out what the maximum sizes and weights are at DPD – and how to measure your parcel correctly to avoid unnecessary delays or surcharges.

Info on Maxi:

Maxi refers to parcels that exceed the DPD standard parcel dimensions. As long as the parcels are within the DPD transport limits, we will transport them, but will charge for the additional ‘Maxi’ service.

“Non-system-compliant” parcels (NSC)

If parcels handed over to us exceed the DPD MAXI dimensions and weights, they will be handled as general cargo for operational and logistical reasons.

A limit is considered exceeded if at least one of the following values is above the permitted MAXI dimensions:
• Weight
• Total dimensions (length × width × height)
• Length or largest single dimension

In these cases, the parcel can no longer be processed within our standard parcel network.

Application of the chargeable weight from general cargo logistics

In such cases, invoicing is usually based on the chargeable weight. This is calculated based on the actual weight or the dimensions of the shipment and represents the value relevant for transport capacity.

Example:

1. Cubic meter calculation:                  Length × width × height = cubic meter
2. Chargeable weight calculation:    Calculated cubic meter above × 250 kg = final chargeable weight
3. Final invoicing:                                     The higher of the actual weight or the chargeable weight is billed

Volume weight

Air freight is billed on the basis of volume weight if this exceeds the actual weight in kilograms. The volumetric weight indicates how much space a parcel takes up in relation to its weight and is calculated according to the TACT Rules of the IATA (International Air Transport Association) using the following formula:

Formula: Length x width x height in cm / 4'000
