Aschaffenburg, 10 December 2013 – Christmas is green with DPD: for all its customers in Germany and almost anywhere in Europe the international parcel and express service provider offers CO2-neutral shipping – at no extra cost. This applies both to parcels sent from DPD ParcelShops and to goods purchased from online retailers.
DPD's carbon-neutral shipping is based on three elements: DPD measures how much CO2 is generated during the transport of parcels from door to door, works continuously on reducing its CO2 emissions and fully offsets all CO2 emissions generated. More information on these measures is available on the DPD website at www.dpd.de/totalzero. Carbon-neutral shipping was launched in July 2012, and in the summer of 2013 DPD extended this commitment, ensuring that its parcel shipping is now CO2-neutral almost anywhere in Europe.
Don't forget: send off your Christmas gifts in good time
5,000 DPD ParcelShops and online shipping under www.dpdwebpaket.de enable convenient parcel shipping within Germany and to other EU countries. To ensure that within Germany they will be delivered in good time for Christmas DPD recommends sending off non-express parcels at the latest by 12 noon on 19 December. Last-minute presents can be sent as express parcels until noon on 23 December for delivery to the consignee on Christmas Eve. To ensure delivery in good time for Christmas of international non-express parcels to EU countries they should be sent off at the latest between 16 and 18 December, depending on the country of destination.
Finding the nearest DPD ParcelShop and other useful services such as parcel tracking are also available for people on the go: via the mobile website mobile.dpd.de and the DPD app, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple and Android app stores.
Taking delivery of parcels flexibly and conveniently
To make sure that taking delivery of Christmas parcels is just as easy as placing an order with an online shop, international parcel and express service provider DPD puts consignees in the driving seat, providing them with a range of options for specifying the time and place of delivery. As a result parcel deliveries can be integrated smoothly into the consignee's everyday routine.
With the Predict service many DPD customers are already taking advantage of interactive delivery notification and the announcement of a time window. With interactive delivery notification DPD informs consignees by SMS or email that their parcels will be delivered on the following day. If consignees will not be at home on the notified date they have the possibility of postponing the delivery by SMS or email to one of the three following days. With the notified delivery window the consignee receives an SMS or email on the morning of the delivery, informing him or her within a 1 - 3 time range when the parcel will arrive. In 2014 DPD will even be reducing this time window to one hour. All these services are free of charge for the consignee.
Consignees who are not located during the first delivery attempt can arrange for a new delivery when it suits them on the neuzustellung.de online portal, which is also available as an app and mobile website. In addition to delivery to a different address, for example to the place of work or even to a different city, consignees can also arrange for the parcel to be left at a DPD ParcelShop or for it to be delivered on a different date.

Aschaffenburg, 10 December 2013 – For the fifth time in succession the 'DPD Initiative for People in Aschaffenburg' is donating 30,000 euros for socially relevant projects from which people in the city will benefit. At a 'DPD Volunteers' Day' in aid of the 'Shining Children's Eyes' project, during which around 30 staff from the Aschaffenburg-based international parcel and express service provider wrapped Christmas gift parcels for needy children and young people, Aschaffenburg's Mayor Klaus Herzog, DPD CEO Arnold Schroven and the Catholic Dean of the city Wolfgang Kempf recently announced the start of the application period for the year 2014.
"I really appreciate the fact that DPD promotes social projects in our city so effectively and consistently", stated Mayor Herzog on the occasion of the 'DPD Volunteers' Day', adding: "I am sure that many associations and organisations in our city with great projects will be applying for support next year, too." DPD CEO Arnold Schroven remarked: "Active support from our staff is just as important as financial donations. I'm proud of the fact that with our initiative we are now for the fifth year in succession making a contribution to the life of our city – and not just for Christmas."
Associations, initiatives and organisations from Aschaffenburg have from now until 14 March to apply for support for socially relevant projects. They can apply both for a financial donation and for support from the parcel service provider's staff within the framework of the 'DPD Volunteers Days'. Uncomplicated application forms are now available for downloading from www.aschaffenburg.de and can also be ordered directly from DPD (email@example.com).
Since 2009 DPD has, in cooperation with the city of Aschaffenburg, donated €120,000 in support of 40 projects. Numerous other initiatives have received energetic support from DPD's Aschaffenburg staff during the 'DPD Volunteers' Days'. In the year 2013 alone the 'Shining Children's Eyes' project will be the ninth Volunteers' Day. Staff will not just be wrapping Christmas gifts but will also be donating lots of presents for children who would otherwise find little waiting for them under the Christmas tree. In addition, for the 'Shining Children's Eyes' initiative DPD transports parcels free of charge all the year round for gifts which needy children receive on their birthday.
The selection of the projects to receive support is made by an independent jury, which in the year 2014 will consist of the Mayor of the city of Aschaffenburg Klaus Herzog, the Catholic Dean of Aschaffenburg Wolfgang Kempf and DPD CEO Arnold Schroven.

Aschaffenburg, 7 November 2013 – Within cities international parcel and express service provider DPD is now delivering parcels in 90 minutes, or alternatively during a two-hour delivery window specified by the consignee. Same-day delivery is at present available to DPD customers in 19 German cities. The service is implemented in cooperation with tiramizoo, Germany's foremost city courier portal, in which DPD is the largest investor with a holding of 20 per cent.
Ordered online, delivered within 90 minutes: with DPD NOW customers receive their parcel within an hour and a half after placing their order, or on the same day within the two-hour window specified by the consignee between 10.00 and 22.00 hrs. The same-day parcels are picked up and transported by couriers who are networked within the tiramizoo city courier portal. Delivery on the same day is currently available in the 19 German cities in which tiramizoo operates, but this coverage is being extended all the time.
A key future service
"More and more retailers are implementing a multi-channel strategy and operating an online sales channel parallel to their bricks-and-mortar branch network. With its same-day shipping service DPD is offering these customers a significant competitive benefit, and even small online shops can now provide same-day shipping for their goods in a fast and simple way. Experience of the online retailing market clearly indicates that shoppers prefer retailers who offer delivery on the same day over competitors who don't have this option," states Boris Winkelmann, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH.
Same-day delivery does not just enable retailers to inspire existing customers and acquire new ones, but also to manage the availability of their goods. For example, it enables high-quality goods to be transported at top speed not only from one branch to another but also from the storage facility to the showroom.
DPD uses high-performance parcel shop network
Major customers with central stores but without their own transport infrastructure can also benefit significantly from the same-day service in 19 German cities. For example, it enables them to store promotional goods temporarily at selected DPD ParcelShops and make them available on the very same day to customers ordering online.
Same-day delivery complements B2C portfolio
Same-day delivery is a further service with which DPD aims to gain a competitive edge on the B2C market. Consignees are to be put in a position to decide when and where they receive their parcels. In 2011 DPD was the first parcel service provider to notify consignees of a precise time window for the delivery of their parcel. "In the year 2014 we will be cutting this delivery window to one hour, which will set a new benchmark on the German parcels market", adds Mr Winkelmann. In addition service options such as delivery to a DPD ParcelShop or 'New Delivery' to an address specified by the consignee provide a maximum of flexibility in taking delivery of parcels. By the year 2014 DPD aims to raise the number of its ParcelShops from the current 4,500 to no less than 8,000.

Dinkelsbühl/Aschaffenburg, 24 October 2013 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is investing €11 million in the construction of a new parcel distribution centre in the German city of Dinkelsbühl, Central Franconia. Building work begins in December on the new DPD depot, which will start operations in the autumn of 2014, when the Dinkelsbühl-Waldeck location will handle 16,500 parcels per day.
"Thanks to the new depot we will be even closer to our customers and consignees in the region, enabling us to meet their requirements even more flexibly", states DPD Regional Manager Bernd Friedel. "In addition we are creating new jobs in the region." A total of 65 drivers and around 30 depot staff will be in operation on behalf of customers every day.
"This is an excellent development with regard to business and jobs in the region," is the pleased reaction of Dinkelsbühl's Mayor Dr. Christoph Hammer. "For our local employment structure it's important that the new DPD depot will create many new jobs, in particular in the technical and semi-skilled fields."
"Locating the new depot in Dinkelsbühl also represents a commitment to the region of Central Franconia, where we now have an even wider base", explains Bernd Friedel. "In addition to its excellent transport links the fast and unbureaucratic cooperation with the city of Dinkelsbühl were the deciding factors in the choice of the new location."
The depot in Dinkelsbühl-Waldeck will be constructed on an overall area of 23,100 m² (built-up area: 18.000 m²). The core of the new depot on the Waldeck Business Park will be the parcel sorting installation, which can handle up to 7,500 parcels per hour fully automatically. From the autumn of 2014 onwards the Dinkelsbühl depot will, among others, serve shippers and consignees in Aalen, Feuchtwangen, Crailsheim and Ellwangen, which have so far been supplied by the DPD depots in Nuremberg, Heilbronn and Neu-Ulm.
Focus on environmental protection
At the new facility DPD will be using solar thermal energy to support the heating of the office building. At the same time shorter distances mean more efficient transport. Thanks to the new location the total kilometres driven by DPD will be reduced, thus cutting the CO2 emissions caused by delivery operations.

Gelsenkirchen/Aschaffenburg, 14 October 2013 – As partner to the Deutsche Sporthilfe foundation DPD has for the tenth year in succession supported the foundation's "Junior Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the Year" awards. With these awards Deutsche Sporthilfe promotes top junior sporting talent and last Friday Dr. Pia-Maria Zecevic, Head of Corporate Communications at DPD, presented the prizes to the young sportsmen and women at Gelsenkirchen's "Musiktheater im Revier".
"DPD is very proud of the past ten years in which we have, together with Deutsche Sporthilfe, committed ourselves to promoting outstanding up-and-coming sporting achievement", states Dr. Pia-Maria Zecevic. "Since 2004 DPD has provided 265 educational grants to a value of more than 560,000 euros for the purpose of supporting sporting talent." The prize-winning junior sportsmen and women of the past ten years include international sports stars such as skiing downhill racer and double Olympic champion Maria Höfl-Riesch, biathlete Magdalena Neuner who retired last year and Viktoria Rebensburg, who won Gold in the Giant Slalom at the last Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Support for the "Junior Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the Year" awards is a central component of DPD's involvement with Sporthilfe. First place in the individual competition this year went to biathlete Laura Dahlmeier, who has recently won three World Junior titles. The runner-up was rower Anne Beenken, twice Junior World Champion in the Single Sculls. Third place went to Manuel Faißt, triple Junior World Champion in the Nordic Combined event. In the team competition awards went to two successful duos in rowing and bobsleighing. The disabled sports prize went to swimmer Elena Krawzow while Linda Neumann, also a swimmer, won first prize in the competition for the hearing disabled.
All the nominated sportsmen and women receive educational grants from DPD with which they can, for example, buy books for their studies or pay college fees. "The sportsmen and women supported by Sporthilfe are a model for all of us. With their dedication, willpower and endurance they display socially relevant values which we as a company share. The aim of the educational grants is to help talented junior sportspeople to combine their professional and sporting careers", explains Dr. Pia-Maria Zecevic.
Long-term commitment to promoting outstanding up-and-coming sporting achievement
As a partner to Deutsche Sporthilfe DPD is also involved in other activities in addition to the "Junior Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the Year" awards. For example, with the Sporthilfe fund-raising promotion "Dein Name für Deutschland" (Your Name for Germany) DPD campaigns for greater support for outstanding junior sporting talent. With effect from this year DPD is also involved in the "Sprungbrett Zukunft" (Springboard to the Future) initiative, which supports sportspeople in pursuing professional and sporting careers, offering sportsmen and women an exclusive job application option in the form of the so-called "keyword application" for the purpose of facilitating their entry to working life. In addition the Sporthilfe logo appears on around 7,000 DPD delivery vehicles in Germany, making it an everyday sight on Germany's roads. Only last year DPD extended its partnership with Deutsche Sporthilfe until the year 2015.

- DPD demands an end to the "something for nothing" mentality
Aschaffenburg, 08.10.2013 – At the turn of the year international parcel and express service provider DPD in Germany will be raising its prices for business customers by an average of 3.5 per cent. This is in response to cost increases in the area of wage and incidental wage costs as well as in freight costs. In addition the company is demanding a radical change in pricing policies throughout the parcels business.
"The entire industry has a shared interest in counteracting the "something for nothing" mentality in parcel shipping", remarks DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "Parcel shippers and their consignees justifiably have high expectations of parcel shipping services. At the same time, however, there is often too little appreciation of the services we provide."
Over the past 10 years stagnating prices in parcel shipping have been accompanied by continuously rising costs. DPD expects the cost situation to become even more critical if the extension of road tolls for heavy goods vehicles which is currently under discussion comes into effect. "If there is an increase in road tolls these additional costs will have to be passed on to our customers, too," adds Mr Schroven.
DPD investing in service quality for private consignees
At present DPD is comprehensively expanding its range of services in the field of commercial parcel shipping to private consignees. Last year the company announced that the number of DPD ParcelShops is to be increased to 8,000 by the year 2014. In addition, by the end of October all DPD ParcelShops will be equipped with the latest scanning technology. The parcel service is also driving forward the development of its services to private consignees and is offering ever more flexibility in parcel shipping, for example by notifying consignees of a time window for the delivery of their parcel. In the year 2014 this time window is in general to be reduced from its current three hours to just one hour.

Aschaffenburg, 1 October 2013 – With DPD in Germany the management of returns is now even simpler. The international provider of parcel and express services is launching a new online portal which links the shippers and consignees of DPD parcels with each other, enabling the convenient return of goods.
"Returning goods is an important component of online retailing, which means that the efficient management of returns is just as important for shippers and their consignees as the shipping process itself", explains Michael Knaupe, Head of B2C Products & Services at DPD. According to a recent study by 'ibi research' at the University of Regensburg, when they place their orders four out of ten shoppers expect that they may have to return the goods. The textile and clothing industry in particular has to deal with a lot of returns.1
Benefits for online retailers
Online retailers can directly integrate the new returns portal into their website with a button, or refer their customers to the portal by email. In the returns portal consignees can then also if necessary enter any missing address data. It only takes a few clicks to generate a return label. "Consignees then simply stick the label on the parcel and handed in at their nearest DPD ParcelShop", says Knaupe. At the same time the DPD returns portal constantly provides online retailers with a comprehensive overview of the status of all their return orders, and for the recording of data the portal can be linked to the retailer's own online shop via an IT interface.
Future prospects: more service for B2C shippers
DPD is continuing to work on ways to make returns as simple as possible for both shippers and consignees. For example, DPD is planning to enable the printing of barcodes which can be processed not only by DPD but also by other service providers. Consignees who return a parcel can then freely select the collection point where they hand in a parcel for return shipping. The introduction of this so-called 'multi-carrier label' is planned for the coming year.
DPD ParcelShops are an important component
In addition to the launch of the new returns portal DPD has over recent months implemented a number of other important measures which simplify the management of returns. For example, by the end of 2014 DPD will be increasing the number of its ParcelShops from the current 4,500 to 8,000. In addition DPD is also investing in new technology for the shops: "The way to the nearest DPD ParcelShop is becoming shorter and shorter, and handing in parcels for shipment is becoming ever easier. This means that returning goods is also increasingly convenient. As a result, DPD is the ideal choice for online retailers when it comes to selecting a suitable parcel service provider", adds Knaupe.

Aschaffenburg, 18 September 2013 – ISOLDE is starting on its next phase: in Nuremberg the international parcel and express service provider is now operating with new electric vehicles. This will enable DPD to ensure emissions-free parcel deliveries in the centre of the Bavarian city in future, too. Since the end of 2000 DPD has, within the framework of the ISOLDE inner-city logistics concept, already delivered more than 1.5 million parcels in an environmentally friendly way.
Compared to parcel deliveries by conventional vehicles the use of electric vehicles in Nuremberg has so far saved up to 68 tonnes of CO2, and pollution from particulates has also been reduced. "Since the very first day delivering parcels with electric vehicles has proved its value. With these two new-generation vehicles we will be able to provide sustainable parcel deliveries in the future, too", explains Jürgen Nutz, manager of the DPD depot in Nuremberg. The first new model is already on the road, while the second electric vehicle will follow in the course of the year. Charging the new vehicles is much simpler than was the case with the previous models. In contrast to their high-voltage powered predecessors they have a 220V connection.
Private consignees and retailers also benefit from ISOLDE: whereas conventional delivery vehicles can only operate in Nuremberg's pedestrian precinct until 10:30 in the morning, there are no restrictions on delivering and picking up parcels with DPD's electric vehicles. "This enables us to adapt our services to the requirements of our customers even better", adds Mr Nutz.
Investment in parcel delivery which conserves the climate
ISOLDE is only one of a number of projects with which DPD is reducing emissions of harmful greenhouse gases during parcel delivery operations. For example, in the Stuttgart conurbation and in Hamburg DPD operates seven battery-driven transporters for the delivery of parcels. In the Hanseatic city DPD is also experimenting with transport bicycles. "The use of delivery vehicles which conserve the climate for parcel deliveries is an important component of our CO2-neutral parcel shipping. Today DPD is already providing CO2-neutral transport for all parcels within Germany and on 15 more European markets", confirms Gerd Seber, Sustainable Development Manager at DPD.
Nuremberg city logistics concept ISOLDE
ISOLDE ("inner-city service with optimised logistical services for retailers"), the Nuremberg city logistics concept, was launched in 1997 with the aim of decreasing the impact of delivery vehicles on the city centre and reducing exhaust emissions. It was initiated as a model project involving the state of Bavaria, the city of Nuremberg and a number of CEP service providers and freight forwarders. After the end of the pilot phase DPD was the only one of the initiating parties to continue with the concept in cooperation with a local DPD system partner, and has been making deliveries with two electric vehicles in the city's pedestrian precinct since the end of 2000.
Carbon-neutral parcel shipping
DPD is the first company in the logistics industry to commit itself to providing CO2-neutral shipping for all parcels – and to do so without additional cost to the customer. Carbon-neutral parcel shipping was initially applied within DPD's six most important markets, and was then extended to ten further European markets in July 2013. DPD's CO2-neutral shipping is based on three different operations: measuring CO2 emissions, reducing the company's own CO2 emissions, and offsetting all unavoidable CO2 emissions by the purchase of certified emissions credits. Aschaffenburg, 1 August 2013 – International parcel and express service provider DPD has taken a 20% share in the tiramizoo city courier portal, thus becoming the largest external shareholder in the Munich-based company. tiramizoo is already offering delivery in 90 minutes or within a specific time window in 15 German cities. With the support of tiramizoo DPD is planning to offer its German customers same-day delivery by the end of this year.
"By participating in tiramizoo we are taking a leading role among parcel services on a key market of the future", states Boris Winkelmann, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH. "At the moment same-day deliveries are still a niche market, but we regard its growth potential in future years as enormous. Offering delivery on the same day is already highly attractive for service-oriented shippers and consumers, and this is why we aim to make a same-day service available to our customers by the end of this year."
tiramizoo: a start-up company sets new benchmarks
tiramizoo GmbH is Germany's largest city courier portal. With a network of 1200 couriers the company offers its customers local deliveries at a time of their choice – right down to delivery within 90 minutes.
"I am delighted that DPD has come on board as a new strategic partner", states Michael Löhr, Managing Director of tiramizoo. "What unites us is the aim of making the transport of goods as simple and convenient as possible." tiramizoo's customers include country-wide multiples and online retailers such as the electronics specialists Conrad and Cyberport, the bookseller Thalia and other retailers in the fields of fashion, electronics and books. Managing Director Michael Löhr launched the start-up company in 2010 together with Volker Schneider and Philipp Walz.
Since September 2012 the shareholders have included one of the world's leading car manufacturers, Daimler AG. Thanks to the networking of inner-city mobility and transport services the close cooperation between the companies creates a comprehensive range of services.
Other shareholders in tiramizoo include Bayern Kapital, Munich's BayBG (Bayrische Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH), which has also acquired a holding in the course of the current share issue, the tiramizoo founders around Michael Löhr and the 'Business Angels' Burkhard Blum and Dirk Reiche, who will become the second managing director of tiramizoo.
More service in B2C shipping
"Our participation in tiramizoo highlights our aim to provide our customers with an entirely new dimension of flexibility and convenience", explains DPD COO Boris Winkelmann. "In this way we put consignees in charge of the delivery of their shipments". DPD is continuously developing its existing services for private consignees and in 2011 was the first German parcel service to offer consignees an exact time window for the delivery of their parcels. Mr Winkelmann adds: "In 2014 this delivery window will be reduced to one hour, which will set a new benchmark on the German parcels market". In addition DPD in Germany offers a range of options with which private consignees can adapt parcel deliveries to their requirements – for example by delivery to a DPD ParcelShop. By 2014 DPD intends to increase the number of its ParcelShops from the current 4,500 to 8,000 in Germany.

Birmingham, 18 July 2013 – Leading online fashion retailer ASOS is aiming to transform the home delivery experience by becoming the first retailer to enable customers to track their home delivery in real-time, thanks to a new live-mapping service and provide customers with a 15 minute delivery slot window.
The new service, called Follow My Parcel, will allow customers to effectively watch their delivery driver on his round as he makes his way to their property and will countdown the time to their delivery to give an accurate 15 minute delivery window.
Provided in partnership with DPD, the Follow My Parcel service will send ASOS customers a text or email message on the day of delivery to inform them of their initial one-hour delivery timeslot. Customers will then be invited to live-track their delivery in real-time using the very latest GPS software and online mapping technology via web and mobile-friendly interfaces.
The customer will then be able to watch the progress of their delivery driver on his round and see a real-time countdown to their own delivery to give them an accurate 15 minute delivery slot, so that they know exactly when to expect their parcel.
ASOS customers can, at any stage on the day of delivery, request the parcel is delivered to a neighbour or rescheduled for a different day by simply using their smartphone.
Dwain McDonald, DPD's CEO said: "This is a first in the delivery market. Our one-hour timeslot service Predict remains a market leader but Follow My Parcel is a significant step forward again and it shows the level of commitment we are making to reinvent the delivery phase of online retailing. A really good home delivery experience can add to the retailer's own reputation and drive more traffic back to their website. There is also an important environmental benefit here in terms of reduced mileage from wasted journeys when unsuccessful deliveries are returned to the depot and customers have to collect them.

Aschaffenburg, 17 July 2013 – For the third year in succession staff from international parcel and express service provider DPD are providing active support for Aschaffenburg's animal shelter. Together the volunteers freshened up the animal enclosures and the grounds of the shelter. The activity formed the start of the nine "DPD Volunteers' Days" which are planned for 2013. These voluntary efforts are part of the "DPD Initiative for People in Aschaffenburg", with which the company has been supporting social projects at its group headquarters for four years now.
"I'm very pleased that this year more than 90 of our staff are getting involved", states DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "It means that we are assuming social responsibility together, and supporting the many people in Aschaffenburg who make voluntary contributions to good causes."
By the end of the year the DPD staff will be dedicating their efforts in support of nine social projects in Aschaffenburg. These activities range from DIY work at community service facilities to providing assistance with events. In addition to the Volunteers' Days, for the past four years the "DPD Initiative for People in Aschaffenburg" has donated an annual sum of €30,000 for the promotion of social projects.
In 2013 the following "DPD Volunteers' Days" are planned:
- Work at the Aschaffenburg animal shelter (July): repairing, cleaning and painting enclosures, aviaries and cages, together with gardening work in the grounds.
- Helping to set up the "Brotherhood of the Peoples" anniversary celebration organised by the City's Youth Ring (July)
- Active support for the Aschaffenburg/Miltenberg Summer Festival of the Children's Out-patient Hospice Service (July)
- Active support for the Open-air Concert of the Aschaffenburg 'Lebenshilfe' Counselling Organisation (July)
- Removal work during the renovation of the St. Jakobus Daycare Centre (August)
- Gardening and building work on the site of the "Knochengarten" Adventure Farm (September)
- Bus excursion for young people with disabilities together with the local "All Included" integration group (September)
- Packaging of Christmas gifts for the "Shining Children's Eyes" initiative (December)
- In May DPD staff supported the "Strong as a knight" family festival organised by the Mucopolysaccharidosis Society.

Aschaffenburg, 26 June 2013 – Users of smart phones and Tablet PCs can now adapt their parcel deliveries to their own requirements even more conveniently: international parcel and express service provider DPD in Germany has added a mobile version of the DPD website www.neuzustellung.de to its online services.
This means that any consignees who are not located at home when DPD makes the first delivery attempt can now - wherever they happen to be - select from four delivery options. "Consignees want to be able to control the movements of their parcel flexibly at any time and select the best delivery option for it. This is why we are constantly continuing to develop our online services", explains Michael Knaupe, Head of B2C Products & Services at DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH.
Today the majority of www.neuzustellung.de users opt for the possibility of having their parcel delivered to one of DPD's more than 4,500 ParcelShops. Thanks to the mobile version this delivery option has become even simpler: the integrated DPD ParcelShop Finder will show consignees the nearest DPD ParcelShop so that they can arrange to have their shipment delivered there. In addition the options of specifying delivery on a different day, to a different address or issuing an authorisation to deposit continue to be available. On request consignees also receive confirmation of their instructions by email.
The mobile version of the New Delivery portal is also free of charge to DPD consignees and is available 24/7. The portal can be accessed via the web browser of the consignee's mobile device and requires no installation. After login the intuitive navigation also enables uncomplicated access to the functions of the DPD web app. There consignees find further useful online services such as end-to-end parcel tracking and the DPD depot finder.

Aschaffenburg, 11 July 2013 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is continuing to invest in the quality of its DPD Parcel-Shop network: by October 2013 all DPD Parcel-Shops will be equipped with electronic manual scanners. This investment will improve service quality and enable efficient management of the more than 4,500 DPD Parcel-Shops in Germany. In addition a central Operations Center has been set up for the purpose of ensuring high quality standards at the Parcel-Shops and managing capacities within the Parcel-Shop network.
"For customers e-commerce doesn't end with a click on the 'Buy' button. Collecting the parcel from a DPD Parcel-Shop or conveniently arranging a return shipment there are also very much part of the online shopping experience", explains Michael Knaupe, Head of B2C Products & Services at DPD GeoPost (Germany) GmbH. "This is why we are investing continuously in our Parcel-Shop network for the purpose of acquiring further market share in the B2C segment."
Equipping the DPD Parcel-Shops with electronic manual scanners is an important element in this strategy. The new technology makes it possible to reduce to 30 seconds the time required for handing in or picking up a parcel. And because every time a parcel is scanned at a DPD Parcel-Shop this is also displayed in the online tracking system, consignors and consignees can be kept up-to-date about the status of their parcels even better. In addition the new technology also provides a direct link to DPD's international IT network. To make sure that the conversion of the DPD Parcel-Shops is implemented smoothly the shop operators receive on-the-spot training in the use of the equipment from DPD staff.
Focus on quality management
In order to guarantee the high quality standards of the DPD Parcel-Shop network DPD has also set up a central Operations Center. With the aid of centrally recorded data staff at the Operations Center can efficiently administer pickup and delivery operations involving the DPD Parcel-Shops. For example, any capacity bottlenecks at a specific shop are identified in good time and the affected parcels are redirected to a different DPD Parcel-Shop nearby. "Central data recording enables effective quality management and raises our DPD Parcel-Shop network to the next level", comments Michael Knaupe. In addition, the experts at the Operations Center provide support to the shop operators whenever they have questions.
8,000 DPD Parcel-Shops by the end of 2014
Last year DPD announced that it will be increasing the number of DPD Parcel-Shops to 8,000 by the year 2014. In addition the company is driving forward the development of its services for private consignees and is steadily increasing the flexibility of the available shipping options. Redirecting a shipment to a DPD Parcel-Shop is only one of the options with which private consignees can arrange parcel deliveries to suit their individual requirements.

Aschaffenburg, 10 July 2013 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is intensifying its direct dialogue with customers, consignees and other interested parties via Facebook and Twitter. Early in July DPD in Germany launched its official Facebook site and customer service channel on Twitter.
"As part of our B2C strategy we are increasingly aiming at direct communication with consignees and putting them in charge of the delivery of their parcels", explains Boris Winkelmann, COO of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH. "With our presence on Facebook and Twitter we are highlighting our efforts to integrate parcel shipping as simply as possible in the everyday lives of consignees."
On its Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/dpdindeutschland) DPD in Germany provides relevant information, news and entertaining content relating to the company and gives all Facebook users the possibility of contacting DPD directly.
"We are looking forward to the dialogue with other Facebook users", says Frank Rickert, Social Media Coordinator at DPD. "Questions, comments and ideas are welcome to us – and we will also deal with criticism constructively. As a dialogue instrument Facebook offers tremendous potential, which DPD as a service-oriented company intends to use to the full." With a current 26 million users in Germany alone Facebook is the largest social network.
On Twitter, too, DPD's aim is to intensify its contacts with customers and consignees. At @DPD_DE (https://twitter.com/dpd_de) the focus is particularly on the idea of service. "Simple, fast and effective – this is what communication is like on Twitter. And it's exactly how we wish to support our customers on Twitter", explains Frank Rickert.
More services in B2C shipping
Commercial parcel shipping to private consignees (known as B2C, business-to-consumer) is becoming more and more important to DPD. The parcel service is driving forward the development of its services for private consignees, and is offering increased flexibility in parcel shipping – for example DPD can inform consignees to within three hours exactly when a parcel will be delivered. DPD was the first parcel service in Germany to introduce this time window, which is to be reduced to one hour by 2014. In addition DPD announced last year that it will be increasing the number of DPD Parcel-Shops to 8,000 by 2014. Redirecting a shipment to a DPD Parcel-Shop is one of the options with which private consignees can adapt parcel deliveries to their requirements.

Aschaffenburg, 1 July 2013 – Following the success of last year´s initiative, DPD´s free carbon neutral parcel shipping will now extend its reach to customers in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, making it available almost everywhere in Europe. All parcels in sixteen European markets will now be shipped carbon neutral - at no extra charge to the customer. The initiative was initially launched as an industry first in July 2012, applying to customers in six of the Group’s European markets.
“We are more than happy that more than 90% of our European parcel volume is now shipped carbon neutrally almost everywhere in Europe, reducing the impact of our business on the planet and following the needs of our customers. Our initiative will continue to grow with even more markets joining in future years,” said DPD CEO Arnold Schroven.
DPD´s initiative is made possible through three steps. First measuring the CO2 footprint, then reducing it through a variety of ‘insetting’ measures – such as using delivery bikes and electric vehicles or reducing energy consumption in buildings – and finally offsetting the remaining carbon from DPD shareholder GeoPost’s European markets. This is achieved in partnership with CDC Climat via a portfolio of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction projects. CDC Climat is a subsidiary of Caisse des Dépôts, a French financial organisation dedicated to long term investment, with over 10 years’ experience of combating climate change.
Since the launch of the programme in July 2012, DPD’s majority shareholder GeoPost has offset the carbon emissions generated in participating European markets against a portfolio of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction projects. Carbon reduction projects that DPD supports include: transforming alfalfa-feed production in France; bringing biodigesters to rural farming communities in Cambodia; and reforestation and habitat restoration in Columbia. All projects are certified with globally recognised carbon standards and each deliver significant socio-economic benefits as well as environmental improvements.
What has been achieved so far?
- The purchasing of carbon credits by GeoPost for the reforestation project in Columbia has ‘saved’ about 12,000 tonnes of CO2 – which is the equivalent of reducing the same volume of CO2 in the air.
- The purchasing of carbon credits based on the Cambodian national biodigester project has enabled a reduction of 50,000 tons of CO2. That is about equal to using 4,000 biodigesters over their depreciation period, which is estimated to be 7 years.
The purchasing of carbon credits equivalent to 85,000 tons for the industrial project in France reduces CO2 in the air in two ways:
- Through a low energy burning process, known as swathing, which consists of drying the alfalfa in the open air before dehydrating it in the factory;
- Through the substitution of part of the current fuel by biomass
Apart from these projects, DPD shareholder GeoPost supports other offset initiatives certified by best-in-class standards, and in other regions of the world, allowing the company to cover all necessary compensation requirements.

Aschaffenburg / Berlin, 17 April 2013 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is mourning the death of Horst Walter Schröter, one of its founding partners who died on 6 April at the age of 85. With his Zeitfracht group of companies he was one of the 18 German freight forwarders who founded the DPD parcel service in 1976. Zeitfracht is the only founding freight forwarder which still has a participation in DPD Dynamic Parcel Distribution GmbH & Co. KG.
"For more than thirty years Horst Walter Schröter was one of the personalities who shaped our company", states DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "He was not only one of the founders of DPD, but to the very last he contributed a great deal to the company with his experience and ideas, both as a shareholding partner and member of the supervisory board. In Horst Walter Schröter DPD has lost a unique entrepreneur who will have a valued place in our grateful memories. Our deepest sympathy goes to his loved ones."
The establishment of the Zeitfracht Group with its headquarters in Stendal, the town of his birth, was Horst Walter Schröter's life's work. DPD Zeitfracht GmbH & Co. KG operates two DPD depots in Berlin together with a DPD depot in Raunheim, Hessen, which serves the entire Frankfurt conurbation. The group has a workforce of around 1000 and includes both the Zeitfracht freight forwarding business and the bus company Altmark Bus GmbH.
The Zeitfracht Group continues to hold 6.21% of the shares in DPD. In June 2011 Horst Walter Schröter transferred a large part of his shareholding to his niece Jasmin Schröter.

The international provider of parcel and express services is now supporting Sporthilfe sportsmen and women embarking on the world of work by offering them a guaranteed invitation to a job interview. The initiative is part of support provided by the Deutsche Sporthilfe foundation for dual sporting and professional careers, and is aimed at offering up-and-coming and top sportsmen and women improved prospects both in terms of sporting achievement and of careers.
DPD's offer applies to all the company's advertised job vacancies, from apprenticeships via work experience to trainee and even management positions. Sportsmen and women who are supported by Sporthilfe can respond to DPD's job vacancies with a special keyword application and are automatically invited for an interview.
The new offer designed by DPD to help Sporthilfe sportsmen and women was made at the launch event of the Sporthilfe initiative "Springboard to the Future – Sport & Career" in Berlin on Tuesday of this week. Participants in the event, which was presented by Johannes B. Kerner, included Jürgen Fitschen, Co-Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Bank AG, Prof. Dieter Hundt, President of the German Employers' Federation, DOSB General Director Dr. Michael Vesper and Olympic champions Britta Heidemann (fencing) and Jonas Reckermann (beach volleyball).
Speaking at the launch Dr. Pia-Maria Zecevic, Director Communications at DPD said: "Sportsmen and women show dedication and achieve peak performances in their own sport every day. It is these very characteristics which make them attractive to us as a company, too." In the process DPD takes into consideration the fact that in relation to their working day sportsmen and women often have commitments in terms of training and scheduled competitions.
With this initiative DPD wishes to give Sporthilfe sportsmen and women a fair chance of competing with others for advertised vacancies at the company. Because of the demands imposed by training and competition, competitive sportsmen and women often have less practical experience and fewer additional qualifications than other applicants. "Sportsmen and women want a fair chance – they don't want to get something for nothing. Competitive sport is very time-consuming and involves longer periods of study or apprenticeship, but in spite of this the soft skills which top sportsmen and women have are in great demand in the business world", explains Dr. Michael Ilgner, Chairman of the Management Board of the Deutsche Sporthilfe foundation.
Enabling sportsmen and women to combine their sporting and professional careers represents only one focal point of DPD's involvement with Sporthilfe. In addition, since 2004 DPD has donated 245 educational grants worth 515,500 euros in connection with the "Junior Sportsmen and Women of the Year" awards. The grants are used by the sportsmen and women for the purchase of books and materials for their studies, for example. In addition, within the framework of the Sporthilfe initiative "Your Name for Germany" DPD has been campaigning since 2010 on behalf of greater support for Germany's up-and-coming and top sportspeople.

M., 13 March 2013 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is the first company within the industry to offer its customers individual CO2 calculation in compliance with the new DIN EN 16258 norm which was published in March. DPD's CO2 calculator was developed in cooperation with the management and technology consultants BearingPoint. As an additional service the calculator now also enables automatic calculation on the basis of France's Décret 2011/1336, which is to come into force in October 2013. With this decree France is the first country in the world to make the calculation and display of CO2 emissions mandatory for all logistics companies.
"An increasing number of customers want to know how much CO2 is emitted by parcel shipping operations", explains Gerd Seber, Sustainable Development Manager at DPD GeoPost (Deutschland), adding: "The decisive factors in this respect are providing the greatest possible transparency and taking into consideration customer-specific features such as the size, weight and transport route of the individual parcels. In addition, reliable measurements are also a precondition for DPD's carbon-neutral shipping. Reducing and offsetting your emissions is only possible if you have a precise idea of what these emissions are."
Matthias Wohlfahrt, Senior Manager at BearingPoint, adds: "For the first time DIN EN 16258 provides a uniform and therefore comparable standard for CO2 measurements in the transport industry. With our CO2 calculator DPD is making use of the first solution which, on the basis of this norm, can structure large data volumes and process them automatically."
Transparent CO2 measurement in accordance with DIN EN 16258
The DIN EN 16258 norm was developed by the European Committee for Standardisation in Brussels, with the participation of experts from a number of countries. The German version was published at the beginning of March by Germany's DIN Institute, which means that certification is now possible in accordance with the specifications of this norm. The certification process for the CO2 calculator used by DPD is already in progress.
The CO2 calculation in accordance with DIN EN 16258 takes into account all emissions right along the logistics chain, ranging from the CO2 emitted by the various means of transport right across to the energy used at the DPD sorting centres. The CO2 calculator applied by BearingPoint and DPD calculates the emissions generated by parcel transport on the basis of the means of transport used for each section of the overall transport process. By linking the transport data with the shipment data it is possible to calculate CO2 emissions individually for each customer. In addition to transport operations the calculator also takes into account whether the parcels are large or small, heavy or light.
France makes CO2 measurement a legal obligation
Whereas the application of the norm is voluntary in Germany, France is the first country in the world to make it mandatory for logistics companies to calculate the CO2 emissions of every transport order, together with the duty to report the emissions which are generated. The basis for this is France's Décret 2011/1336, which is to come into effect on 1 October 2013. The decree also specifies the measurement method to be applied. This is in line with DIN EN 16258 but is not identical. DPD is well prepared for these regulations, in that the CO2 calculator already enables both methods of calculation.

DPD has been making use of the CO2 calculator ever since the launch of its fully carbon-neutral parcel shipping in July 2012. The company's commitment to climate neutrality applies on DPD's European core markets, and is based on the three pillars of "measuring, reducing and offsetting". Aschaffenburg, 7 March 2013 – With effect from 18 March 2013 Boris Winkelmann (42) will be taking up the newly-created post of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and with it the operational management of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH. In this post he will report directly to DPD CEO Arnold Schroven.
"Boris Winkelmann combines vast experience of the industry with in-depth knowledge of DPD and our management", explains DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "As a result he is ideally qualified to meet the challenges facing DPD in the future and strengthen our leadership ambition in the German market."
In addition to his position as CEO of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH Arnold Schroven will, in his role as CEO of DPD Dynamic Parcel Distribution GmbH & Co. KG, continue to drive forward DPD's international development. "I'm looking forward to being able to devote myself increasingly to strategic tasks in future, with the aim of enhancing the capacity of DPD's European network further", he explains.
Boris Winkelmann has 19 years of experience in the express and parcels business. He began his career in 1994 at the group HQ of TNT Express, where he held a number of management positions before moving to DPD's majority shareholder GeoPost in 1999. At GeoPost, a wholly owned subsidiary of France's La Poste, Boris Winkelmann was responsible for coordinating the acquisition of a majority shareholding in DPD in Germany, which was successfully completed in the year 2001. Over the past 10 years he has built up and managed the online shipping service LetMeShip, the leading information and market research service CEP-Research and the M&A consulting company ITA Consulting. These companies will now be under the sole management of his brother and co-founder Mark Winkelmann. Boris Winkelmann is married and has two children.
