Become the reference in sustainable delivery

Boris Winkelmann

Sustainability is the biggest challenge of our times. At DPDgroup, we are pioneering a truly sustainable business. It’s what drives us every dayWe aim to be a force for good in the world, joining forces with customers, consumers, suppliers and other stakeholders to make a positive difference to people, to our planet and to the communities we operate with.

DPDgroup is also at the forefront of the e-commerce revolution, touching the lives of millions of people every day – that’s another reason why we’re striving to be the most sustainable delivery company. Because wherever we live on Earth, we all share the same address.”

Boris Winkelmann, Chairman & CEO of GeoPost / DPDgroup

We all share the #SameAddress

In 2020, we delivered 1.9bn parcels worldwide. But when it comes to protecting future generations and our cherished planet, we all share the same address. That’s why we’ve reduced our CO2 emissions per parcel by 18.8% since 2013 and we’ll reach 30% by 2025, when our delivery vehicles in Europe’s 225 largest cities will be 100% low- emission.

Inspired and guided by the three pillars of our Sustainability approach – PeoplePlanet and Communities – DPDgroup is working harder than ever to create a social and environmental legacy that our children can be proud of.

100% carbon-neutral parcel service

Carbon-neutral parcel service

DPD offers carbon-neutral parcel transport to its customers at no extra charge. This is important for us and we want to offer only the best for our customers.  We measure the carbon we emit on a daily basis and are constantly looking for ways to reduce it. We are offsetting our current CO2 emissions by funding various green energy projects in India and Brazil. We like to be environmentally friendly so that our future generations would also have a green Earth to live on.

Social responsibility

As a parcel delivery service provider, we interact closely with the society on a daily basis. We believe that it is necessary to give back to society and leave a positive impression. This is why DPD has supported the development of the Sports Centre in Rae municipality, as well as low-income families when school starts and during Christmas. We also support various youth and education events with our products and services (transport of notebooks to schools, organisation of a logistics seminar in cooperation with TUT students, etc.).

Smart city logistics

Daily high vehicle pollution has left its mark on the environment. We are trying to reduce it and use alternative vehicles, making smarter choices for the environment. The first DPD couriers have tested the use of the VW e-Crafter and our office employees have tested the VW e-Up. We protect the environment and are always looking for more environmentally friendly ways for shipping parcels. In Estonia, we measure carbon emissions per parcel on a daily basis and neutralise carbon gases emitted into the air. DPD also strives to make its fleet and infrastructure more environmentally friendly. This means that we regularly update our fleet to use the most efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.

Smart solutions in European cities

Smart solutions in European cities

Digital services
Thanks to the digital service, we are able to deliver parcels on time at the first delivery attempt in cooperation with our customers. DPD sends an SMS to the customer in the morning regarding the time of delivery of the parcel and if it is not suitable for the customer, they can send the parcel to a parcel locker or change the delivery time. This way, the courier does not make an unnecessary trip to the customer and we reduce the level of carbon emitted into the environment.

Fleet
We are testing the possibilities of using a fully electric van, e-Crafter. The first Estonian couriers have already tried out the vehicle and we plan to update our fleet with e-Crafters in the future.

Bicycles
DPD bicycle couriers can be seen in several European cities. This allows us to deliver parcels quickly, conveniently and in a carbon-neutral manner within cities.

Courier on foot
In several European cities, DPD uses couriers who travel on foot. Parcels are delivered to the recipients within the city centre on foot, without using a car or bicycle.
