European Mobility Week 2019 across DPDgroup
Every year, since 2002, the European Mobility Week is organised from 16 to 22 September and is dedicated to sustainable mobility. European Mobility Week 2019 is focusing on “Safe walking and cycling” and the ways active mobility can benefit our health, environment, and bank balances.
Smart urban delivery is one of the five priorities of our CSR programme DrivingChangeTM focussing on improving everyday urban life by giving greater delivery choices, while reducing our impact on the road. Through this priority, DPDgroup is using innovation to meet the challenges of urban mobility while providing customers with the best delivery services in the best environment.
“75% of Europe’s inhabitants live in cities today with growing needs. Parcel volumes are forecast to double by 2025, meaning additional stress on cities with more pollution, congestion and noise. In this context, DPDgroup is adapting its operations by deploying smart urban delivery solutions combining urban depots and low emission means, such as electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles or cargo bikes,” explains Dominique Mamcarz, CSR Director of DPDgroup.
2 major European city centres will be 100% served by low emission delivery means by the end of 2019: Hambourg and Paris
43 smart urban delivery solutions are already deployed in Europe
75% of our delivery fleet is at least compliant with the Euro 5 standard
Business units’ initiatives for smarter cities
The challenge for a delivery company such as DPDgroup is to contribute to more sustainable cities, permanently innovate to provide a better and smarter delivery service to customers, optimise city centre delivery processes, and develop ever more agile urban delivery vehicles.
This strong contribution is the result of the continuous actions from DPDgroup business units. For example, discover below the video interviews of Mark Wilkes, Director of Technical Services and Responsible for CSR in DPD UK, as well as Maciej Głowcaki, Chief Operating Director in DPD Poland, about their urban depots in London and Warsow.
Encouraging daily healthy activities and lifestyle – an example from DPD Poland
Since 2002, the European Mobility Week has sought to improve public health and quality of life through promoting clean mobility and sustainable urban transport.
DPDgroup subsidiaries also take actions to provide attractive means of encouraging daily healthy activities and lifestyle. As evidenced by the bicycle challenge hosted by DPD Poland headquarters between July and September 2019.
This mobile app-based gamification initiative is dedicated to DPD Poland employees and subcontractors, focusing on bicycle trips. Participating cyclists are awarded points for each bicycle trip, bicycle commuting as well as achievements, such as maintaining a steady routine of regularly riding the bicycle. The bicycle challenge is also an opportunity for colleagues to support DPD Poland Foundation. Every kilometre driven on a bicycle results in donation to the DPD Poland Foundation.
A part of DPD Poland core values is the idea that environmental protection is very important and that everyone can play its part. The company has then developed attractive action to encourage daily healthy activities and lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance awareness.
