DPDgroup innovates for better life in city centres
Paris, 31 October 2019 – World Cities Day, on 31 October, is the opportunity for DPDgroup to reaffirm its contribution to building a better future through smart urban delivery initiatives.
Smart urban delivery in the world by DPDgroup
DPDgroup is deploying smart urban delivery solutions to deliver parcels more effectively across Europe, working in close cooperation with city authorities to support and promote clean air and bringing delivery closer to customers.
Committed to the four most relevant objectives among the United Nations Development Goals, DPDgroup focusses on those in light of the group’s impacts on society. Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable is one of the key priority of its CSR programme DrivingChangeTM.
Attentive to the needs of each city and, thanks to its cross-border delivery expertise, DPDgroup gears its offering of urban depots and alternative fleet. Smart urban delivery solutions are deployed in many cities where significant results have already been recorded.
9 urban depots are located in Warsaw, opened from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Chronopost is the first company to deliver the entire city of Paris in low emission vehicles.
In Madrid, 50,000 km are done by low emission means each year.
Dublin urban depot uses 100% renewable electricity.
In Tallinn, DPD delivers to lockers, robot towers, home lockers and small mobile robots, providing a large variety of alternative delivery options to the end consumer.
2,200 parcels per day are delivered in Hambourg using a perfect mix of alternative vehicles.
In London, the Westminster urban depot is the UK’s first all-electric parcel depot. In the country, DPD expand its zero emission electric vehicles targeting to make 10% of its delivery fleet electric by 2021.
Outside Europe, DPDgroup’s out-of-home delivery network also relies on 350 Pickup points in Singapore and 780 in São Paulo.
Committed to the environment and customer-focused
DPDgroup alternative, low-emission delivery fleet relies on natural gas, electric vehicles, and cargobikes. 75% of the fleet is compliant at least with the Euro 5 standard.
With a 15.2% decrease in CO2 emissions per parcel in 2018 vs. 2013, DPDgroup aims to further reduce its emissions per parcel by 30% in 2025 and have 5,000 low emission delivery means in place at that time.
N° 1 in the CEP sector for voluntary carbon offset, DPDgroup makes every parcel delivered carbon neutral, at no extra cost for its customers.
By listening to its customers, DPDgroup continually innovates, providing sustainable solutions:
Predict gives recipients an advanced, 1-hour time slot notification and the opportunity to reschedule. Increased successful deliveries have allowed for a 4% decrease in CO2 emissions.
Pickup offers customers 45,000 out-of-home delivery points in 27 countries, with nearly 95%, within 15 minutes from recipients’ homes. Consolidating to single points has lowered our CO2 footprint as 70% of recipients collect parcels on foot, by bike or 10% by public transport.
DPDgroup is Europe’s second largest parcel delivery network.
