DPDgroup is ready for the year’s biggest sales period, starting with Black Friday

Paris, 18 November 2019 – In 2018, DPDgroup delivered 200 million parcels throughout this period.
DPDgroup expects reaching peaks of 10 million parcels on 2 December,  and during the week before Christmas.

E-commerce confirms its vitality in Europe. Indeed, €621 billion of B2C parcels are expected by the end of 2019, an increase of 13.6% compared to 20181.
November has become synonymous with a frenzy of online consumption, and each year the value of online sales smashes the previous year’s record thanks to “Black Friday” (29 November this year), “Cyber Monday” (2 December) and then the Christmas period.
This period has now extended into the first half of January, with online gift reselling and returns in the CEP market (Courier, Express, and Parcel).
This year, DPDgroup forecasts a 20% volume growth compared to normal business days, and even more than 100% growth on peak days. DPDgroup expects to deliver close to 10 million parcels on the busiest day planned for 2 December (Cyber Monday) and probably also nearly 10 million on another peak day the week before Christmas.

DPDgroup’s plan is in place

The secret to success is preparation. As a delivery expert, DPDgroup takes concrete steps prior to this busy period:

  • Opening hours and shift times are extended throughout the 1,000 hubs and depots;

  • Extra routes and drivers are added to the pick-up and delivery fleet to facilitate the increased demand during peak weeks;

  • Additional international linehaul capacity is planned;

  • Coordination between the operations and sales departments are enhanced, where earlier pick-ups are assessed in close communication with the customers;

  • In preparation for a Brexit no-deal scenario, still possible until 31 January 2020, DPDgroup will be ready right after the peak period if need be.

And as throughout the year:

  • DPDgroup delivers parcels with an alternative, low-emission fleet relying on natural gas, electric vehicles, and cargobikes, making every parcel delivered carbon neutral, at no extra cost for its customers;
  • DPDgroup provides innovative and sustainable solutions, with Predict giving recipients an advanced, 1-hour time slot notification and the opportunity to reschedule; or Pickup network offering customers 42,000 out-of-home delivery points in 27 countries.

DPDgroup is the ideal partner for e-tailers’ global ambitions, shipping parcels and delivering goods worldwide, especially during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.
