SEUR reinforces its fresh delivery service and is committed to Internet of Things technology

5 November 2020 - In recent years we have witnessed an exponential increase in online food sales. In 2019, according to Informa's DBK Sectorial Observatory, this market exceeded €3 billion, marking a rise of 13.6%, driven mainly by the fresh category (26.7%). However, although ecommerce has become an ally in the food sector, it represents only 1.2% of the total market, which shows that there is still a great margin for growth and the sector e -food has great potential.

In this context, logistics is a key piece for the success of e-commerce and it becomes crucial when we talk about food transportation. SEUR launched its cold SEUR solution in 2002 with which it carries out the urgent transport of fresh food at a controlled temperature (between 2 and 8 degrees) with delivery the next day before 1:30 p.m.

Now, with the aim of contributing to the growth of this trend and guaranteeing the quality and integrity of the products, SEUR has made an investment of more than €1 million in an innovative system, based on the Internet of Things (IoT), guaranteeing the traceability of the temperature from the moment of collection to its delivery. To this end, more than 1,000 temperature measurement devices with NB-IoT technology have been installed in all refrigerated merchandise loading units, such as delivery vehicles, containers, as well as in the hundred cold chambers available in the network of SEUR. Likewise, it has reinforced its infrastructures with the incorporation of 280 refrigeration vehicles, more than 200 ATP certified containers, improvements in the trawl net and the renewal of the refrigerated chambers.

According to Alberto Navarro, CEO of SEUR:

"The food sector, especially in the online environment, has experienced a boost as a result of the Coronavirus crisis, which is why it is positioned as one of the sectors with the highest growth forecasts short and medium term. For this reason, it is key for us to be able to offer our clients, whether they are companies or individuals, a service that guarantees the maintenance of the cold chain and the traceability of their shipments based on the latest technology”.

The commitment to this service is declared as safe based on what we have experienced in recent months, and it is that since the beginning of the pandemic, shipments made through this solution have increased substantially, increasing up to 60%. The Covid-19 crisis has brought with it new consumption habits that everything indicates that they have come to stay, and among them, the use of e-commerce for all types of purchases, including food, stands out.
