8. December 2020 | Press release

French family allowance offices (CAF) and Chronopost deliver more than 500,000 transparent face masks to nurseries and childcare centres starting from 8 December

Paris, 8 December 2020 - Following the decision of the French family allowance offices (CNAF) executive board[1], the distribution of transparent face masks for staff of nurseries and childcare centres in contact with young children will take place until 24 December. This special operation will enable all the staff concerned to have transparent face masks for the better well-being of young children.

Since 8 December, French family allowance offices (CAF) and Chronopost have been delivering 500,000 transparent face masks to 20,000 facilities in France (mainland France and overseas territories), representing 17,000 childcare facilities and 3,500 childcare centres.

The facilities will receive as many face masks as the number of approved places. The masks are made by APF France Handicap according to a benchmark model of inclusive masks with elastics, strictly complying with current standards. Each transparent face mask can be washed twenty times.

Chronopost delivers the masks free of charges to nurseries and childcare centres from 8 to 24 December at the latest. They will benefit from the "Predict" service, allowing them to be notified by email the day before their parcel arrives and to modify the delivery if necessary (reschedule, change the address, delivery to a parcel shop, etc.).

"The CNAF executive board has decided to finance these transparent face masks in order to facilitate the well-being and development of toddlers. Indeed, they must be able to read the expressions of the faces around them: this is essential for their balance and learning. With this decision, we are also continuing to stand by our partners in this difficult period we are going through", says Isabelle Sancerni, Preisdent of the CNAF executive board.

Martin Piechowski, CEO of Chronopost France, said:

"We are proud to support citizens' initiatives such as this one, it seems very logical to us. With no hesitation, we have put our expertise in express delivery at the disposal of the CNAF".

[1] The CNAF executive board voted in favour of financing the transparent face masks in response to a request from Olivier Véran, Minister of Health and Solidarity, and Adrien Taquet, Secretary of State for Children and Families.
