DPD Poland expands its fleet by 50 new electric vehicles

DPD Poland has expanded its fleet of electric delivery vans by another 50 vehicles. Mercedes-Benz eVito Furgons are suitable for deliveries in the centres of large and medium-sized cities. Expansion of e-fleet by state-of-the-art make of vehicles is an important step on the way to neutral deliveries, which is the aim of DPDgroup’s sustainable development strategy. DPD Poland has now got one hundred such vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz eVito Furgon vans are equipped with an electric engine with a maximum power of 85 kW (116 HP). An average electricity consumption is 24.9 kWh per 100 km. With a range of 150 km, eVito Furgon is a good choice for urban traffic. It is carbon dioxide-free, so it can be driven in clean air zones. The van can control the recuperation levels (energy recovery when decelerating), which allows the driver to manage the vehicle’s range.

E-consumers expect sustainable operations

‘During the coronavirus pandemic, we have observed increased awareness not only of health protection issues, but also of the need to prevent climate change. We are seeing an increase in the second-hand goods market and a stronger demand for environmentally friendly delivery options. We strive to meet these expectations by introducing low- and zero emission vehicles to our fleet. Further plug-in cars are our important step in this direction’ says Rafał Nawłoka, CEO, DPD Poland.

DPD Poland's sustainable investments

There are also other urban logistics solutions available from DPD Poland. Urban depots being established in residential and business districts and in city centres, offer deliveries by bicycle, cargo electric bikes, electric scooters, and on foot. These depots form an important element of the DPD Pickup chain, which consists of over 4000 points. Environmentally friendly urban logistics is also facilitated by tailor-made services for the recipients, allowing the increase of successful first attempt deliveries. The mojapaczka.dpd.com.pl application allows consumers to manage their shipments on their own and facilitates contact with the courier, so that orders can reach the indicated address faster.

Optimisation of road connections is another contributing factor to reducing emissions. For the past two years, DPD Poland has been rolling out a new logistics model based on decentralisation of processes, which shortens the routes and reduces harmful emissions. The company has implemented energy and water-saving solutions in all facilities, as well as selective waste collection. The new depots are also equipped with photovoltaic systems, LED lighting and other innovations in accordance with energy-saving standards. DPD Poland also regularly makes certified purchases of the so-called ‘green energy’, which also contributes to reducing the carbon footprint.
