DPD Portugal, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Repsol join efforts for environmental commitment

DPD Portugal, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Repsol signed an agreement involving the acquisition by DPD of 55 electric vehicles and their respective charging bases from Repsol, representing an investment of more than 3.6 million euros.

This measure is part of the DPDgroup's commitment to reducing the environmental footprint in the 200 main European cities, and by 2025 they will reduce their CO2 emissions by 89% and pollutants by 80% compared to 2020 in these same cities.

The agreement reflects Repsol's Strategic Plan, based on multi-energy and the Single Customer, and underscores its commitment to the energy transition and commitment to diversifying low-carbon businesses. It is also a clear demonstration of commitment to the sustainable mobility agreements signed with Lisbon City Council.

“DPD Portugal has been the pilot of several initiatives in our Group's green strategy, with the city of Lisbon being the stage for actions such as Air Diag, launched in June 2019, which allows Lisbon residents to know the quality of air at their door, thanks to the hundreds of sensors we have installed in our vehicles and in Pickup parcel shops, as well as the most recent City Trees, which were installed between September 2020 and January this year on Avenida da Ribeira das Naus and enabled the production of about 4 tons of oxygen in its intervention area. These same initiatives are part of the mobility pacts and green commitment that we established with the Lisbon City Council”, says Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD Portugal.

Mário Neves, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Vans Portugal, highlights :

“the enormous pride in establishing this partnership with DPD Portugal, which reflects the objective of both companies in leading electric mobility in the transport of goods and contributing to the sustainable future of our planet. The eSprinter model vehicles, 100% electric, are perfectly suited to the technical and operational requirements and high-quality standards of DPD Portugal. Mercedes-Benz Vans' commitment to environmental sustainability without local emissions will be reinforced as early as 2022 with the launch of the new eCitan, which will join the current eSprinter and eVito models, thus providing a complete range of 100% electric vans, able to satisfy various volumetric needs of our customers' activities.”

According to Armando Oliveira, Repsol Managing Director,

“It is with pleasure that we sign this agreement with DPD Portugal, a partner that shares the same values and commitment to the energy transition, which will allow the installation of Repsol's first private e-hub in Portugal and simultaneously charge 30 electric vehicles. We will ensure not only the entire infrastructure and installation of chargers, but also the maintenance and fleet management system for electric vehicles. This is another step that reflects our relevance to diversifying low-carbon businesses. We will continue to actively promote more initiatives that put electric mobility at the service of our customers, and, at the same time, perform a value-added service.”

Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD, concludes about this agreement that :

"This step we are taking today is of enormous importance for DPD and for Lisbon, as it is thanks to it that we will be able to reduce the emission of polluting gases by 330 tons per year. By the end of 2021 we will have our entire fleet at zero emissions, which will help us to affirm our strategy of total decarbonization of the Portuguese capital, followed by Oporto in 2022. DPD is the only operator that, since 2012, offers its customers 100% carbon offsetting, at no cost, and all these actions have enabled us to measure, reduce or even cancel our environmental footprint across Europe.”
