Nespresso and DPD Portugal kick off with green deliveries in Oporto

The coffee brand reinforces commitment to sustainability with this partnership with DPD Portugal for deliveries in electric vehicles in the city of Oporto

Nespresso's commitment to sustainability made the brand bet on a pilot project of 'green deliveries'. After Lisbon, which was the first city to launch the brand's sustainable deliveries, Oporto started free deliveries by electric vehicle, in partnership with DPD Portugal.

Nespresso is committed to carbon neutrality and aims to ensure that all cups are carbon neutral by 2022.

“Having already achieved carbon neutrality in our commercial activity, we intend to be neutral in terms of emissions that occur in its supply chain and in the production cycle. product life. After starting the project in Lisbon, it makes perfect sense that the second largest city in the country also has green deliveries. What we want is that in the future all our deliveries will be more sustainable”

says Brigitte Felber, BEO of Nespresso Portugal.

The use of these electric vehicles will allow an annual saving in carbon dioxide (CO2) of more than 13 tonnes per year, compared to the version with diesel engine. These electric vehicles do not emit particles and NOx during use.

Nespresso and DPD share a commitment to sustainability and are now uniting for a common goal.

"Sustainability is today's biggest challenge. At DPD we are pioneers in a truly sustainable business. It's what drives us every day. Sustainability is a challenge for the entire Portuguese economy and society, which is why we believe that we must reinvent processes and bet on solutions such as electric mobility or renewable energies, with the talents and creativity we already have. This project is the 1st step in the decarbonization of deliveries in the city of Porto, after having communicated to Lisbon totally zero emissions in deliveries until the end this year”,

underlines Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD Portugal.

Nespresso also challenges the Portuguese to deliver to DPD Drivers the capsules already used to integrate the recycling process, in which they will be inserted in the production of cars, window frames, bicycles.

Nespresso's investment in recycling strengthens its commitment to sustainability and, since 2018, the brand has invested more than 500 thousand euros annually in over 250 recycling points in Portugal.

DPD Portugal has been the pilot of several initiatives in the green strategy within the DPDgroup, with the city of Lisbon being the stage for actions such as Air Diag, launched in June 2019, which allows Lisbon residents to know the air quality at their doorstep , thanks to the hundreds of sensors we have installed in our vehicles and pickup stores. More recently, we received the City Trees pilot project, wooden trees that were installed between September 2020 and January this year on Avenida da Ribeira das Naus and which enabled the production of around 4 tonnes of oxygen in its intervention area.

All of these actions are part of the DPDgroup's commitment to reduce the environmental footprint in the 200 main European cities, and by 2025 the goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 89% in cities where it operates and pollutants by 80% in relation to 2020.
