SEUR joins INSPIRA Madrid project that will create Europe's first hydrogen-powered delivery fleet

This initiative plans the development of a hydrogen manufacturing infrastructure and refueling points open to the public to provide both delivery fleets and taxis, buses and other vehicles with this fuel in the Community of Madrid

SEUR, whose challenge is to become the most sustainable express transport company in the sector, joins the Inspira Madrid project, which aims to promote renewable hydrogen as an alternative fuel and meet the challenge of the progressive decarbonization of urban land transport. To this end, a green hydrogen production plant and a network of at least five refueling stations will be developed to meet the needs of the transport sector in Madrid.

This is an initiative led by the Professional Taxi Federation of Madrid, Madrileña Red de Gas, FRV, Meser, Toyota España and Grupo Ruiz, with the collaboration of PWC as strategic advisor to the consortium. A group of different companies which represent the different fleets that move around Madrid every day: passenger transport, private vehicles and now, with the incorporation of SEUR, freight transport.

This way, the express delivery company will bring in a first phase its experience within the last mile area in order to gather the best knowledge on urban mobility and contribute to the creation and development of the necessary infrastructure for renewable production and refueling of hydrogen. According to Itxaso Larrañaga, SEUR's Director of People and CSR,

"Our participation in this project reinforces our goal of sustainable delivery, in which hydrogen vehicles can play a major role".

The substitution of hydrocarbons for hydrogen will reduce the emissions generated in the region of Madrid by the mobility of goods and people by more than 14,000 tons each year. Therefore, with this alliance, the company reinforces its commitment to contribute to improving the citizens' quality of life through sustainable actions.

Smart urban delivery is one of the pillars of SEUR's sustainability strategy, which includes the progressive change towards an ecological fleet, which today already accounts for 10% of the total. With it, the company managed to deliver nearly 8 million parceks and travel 12,260,743 km, or in other words, 10% of the total number of kilometers traveled by the company in 2020 were done with these vehicles. SEUR's goal is to achieve 100% eco-delivery in the center of 20 Spanish cities by 2025 and 20% eco-delivery and 0 emissions throughout the national network.
