19 January 2021 - Parcel delivery service DPD is committed to significantly reduce its CO2 and PM emissions, and for that reason it will start using 100 electrical vans. This is in line with DPD’s sustainability ambition to achieve carbon neutrality in its parcel delivery service in the 30 biggest cities in the Netherlands by 2025. The first electrical vans are now being used in Amsterdam and Haarlem. This year, they will also be introduced in the cities of Eindhoven, Breda, Groningen and Maastricht.

In 2012, DPD started carbon-neutral delivery. The deployment of these electrical vans is the next step, in which DPD will further reduce CO2 emissions, with the aim of sustainably delivering parcels at 400 routes in 2025. Under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, parcels for the city centres of the 30 biggest cities must be delivered without CO2 and PM emissions in 2025. However, DPD takes this goal a step further and will make its delivery service completely sustainable for all of these 30 cities, rather than just their centres.

In order to realize this step to emissions-free delivery, DPD has concluded agreements with Volkswagen (E-Crafter), Mercedes (E-Sprinter) and Renault (E-Master).

30 cities emissions-free in 2025

The 30 cities that will enjoy DPD’s emissions-free delivery services in 2025 are: Almere, Alphen aan den Rijn, Amersfoort, Amsterdam, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Breda, Delft, Dordrecht, Den Haag, Ede, Eindhoven, Emmen, Enschede, Groningen, Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Leeuwarden, Leiden, Maastricht, Naaldwijk, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Tilburg, Utrecht, Venlo, Zaandam, Zoetermeer and Zwolle.

50five Group

In order to reinforce its sustainability ambition, DPD has also entered into a partnership with 50five, partner for realizing the electrical infrastructure and charging stations. With this partner, DPD is opening today one of the biggest charging stations in the Netherlands, ultimately having charging capacity for 70 electrical vans.

DPDgroup will further reduce CO2 emissions by deploying 7,700 electrical vehicles in 2025 in 225 European cities for its delivery services. Internationally, DPDgroup will also build 3600 charging stations and 80 new urban distribution centres. DPDgroup aims at further reducing CO2 emissions per parcel by 30%. Until 2025, DPDgroup will invest 200 million euros to make a contribution towards improving the quality of life in 225 European cities.
