SEUR celebrates its 80th anniversary as a leader in e-commerce with a focus on sustainability

  • 80 years ago SEUR introduced express transport in our country. Today, integrated into the international DPDgroup network, it continues to transform itself every day to become a leader in e-commerce services.

  • The company has just launched its space in Canalejas 360, the new and innovative electric mobility hub in the city of Madrid. The SEUR space will manage the last mile with ecological vehicles and will have a point of sale for order management.

SEUR, a pioneering company in introducing express transport in Spain, is celebrating its 80th anniversary as a leader in the sector in our country, thanks to its three main lines of business: ecommerce, international business and B2B services.

80 years committed to innovation as the core of its strategy

SEUR has always been focused on innovation and the latest technology at its disposal as the basis for its growth and for the development of new solutions that provide greater flexibility, swiftness and convenience to its customers, whether they are private users or companies of any size.

One of the biggest challenges faced by the company in recent years, and the sector in general, has been adapting to the demands and new needs of online consumers. A market that has been expanding to almost all sectors, such as food and fresh produce, which last year, after the impact of the pandemic, continued to grow and experienced an increase of 34% compared to 2020. SEUR was able to cope with this increase thanks to SEUR frío. With this solution, the company transports food at a controlled temperature within 24 hours. The organization invested more than one million euros for this service in an innovative system, based on the Internet of Things (IoT), which guarantees real-time temperature traceability from the moment of pick-up to delivery.

In order to respond to the immediacy required by e-commerce, SEUR has continued to develop innovative solutions such as SEUR Now, its express delivery service in one or two hours, which is now in its 25th anniversary. It has also launched different out of home solutions that allow customers to choose where and when to pick up their orders. The SEUR Pick up network now has more than 3,000 points of sale and lockers throughout Spain, facilitating the collection of online orders for all the company’s customers and it plans to reach 5,000 by 2025.

Innovation in the centre of Madrid: Canalejas HUB

Combining its innovative spirit with its sustainability strategy, the company has just opened a space in the recently inaugurated Canalejas 360, the new electric mobility hub in the heart of the city centre of Madrid, which houses the most powerful urban electro-lane in Spain. SEUR will manage 140 daily shipments from this point with ecological vehicles, such as electric bicycles, as well as serving as a pick-up point for deliveries and returns, and it will deliver luggage to hotels in the area, since it is a point of high tourist traffic.

The challenge of becoming the international reference of sustainable delivery

SEUR has set itself the goal of becoming the most sustainable logistics operator internationally, an ambition led by the DPDgroup, the group to which the company belongs. To this goal, it has launched an ambitious strategy, consisting of low-emission deliveries in 64 Spanish cities by 2025, and reducing CO2 emissions in these locations by around 85%, which will have a direct impact on 17 million inhabitants throughout Spain. To this end, the company will invest more than 4 million euros during 2022, and will incorporate 1,500 low-emission vehicles by 2025.

At the group level, DPDgroup has recently submitted its decarbonisation pathway to the SBTi (Science Based Target initiative) with the aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2040; that is, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement

SEUR in figures

SEUR closed 2021 with a turnover of 875 million euros, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. In the ecommerce segment, the company had a revenue of 400 million euros, representing 50% of its business. International sales accounted for more than 30% of revenue last year, reaching 275 million euros.

SEUR has an investment plan of 250 million euros by 2025 earmarked for new technological developments to improve daily operations and customer relations, as well as to adapt its infrastructure network to business growth.
