Chronopost will deliver Paris-wide with a 100% low emission vehicles fleet

Chronopost France will deliver Paris-wide with a 100% low emission vehicles fleet by 1 July 2019

18 April 2018 - Chronopost, the French expert in express delivery of parcels weighing less than  30 kilos, has committed to providing Paris-wide delivery with a fleet of 100% low emission vehicles by 1 July 2019. A unique deployment on the scale of the capital city, that Chronopost is the only express delivery specialist to roll out.

More than 100 low emission vehicles deployed in Paris

Deployed at the Chronopost depots in Ney, Rungis, Bobigny, Alfortville and its Parisian Urban Logistics Areas in Concorde, Beaugrenelle and Bercy, the fleet will consist of electric models (Renault Kangoo ZE, Nissan ENV 200), CNG (FIAT Ducato) electric-assisted carrier tricycles and trolleys.

To date, around 100 Nissan-type vehicles, fitted out by equipment manufacturer Voltia, have been ordered to complement the range of electric vehicles. The vehicles will be deployed as of July at the rate of 5 vehicles per week and will reinforce the thirty or so vehicles already distributed between the various Parisian sites.

The express delivery specialist’s stated ambition is to provide 100% low emission delivery across Paris by 1 July 2019. In the long term, this will mean 14,500 delivery points per day and 25,300 parcels, dispatched in 190 rounds made during the day and a further 30 in the evening.

A long-term commitment

This initiative comes as part of a low emission urban logistics policy implemented by Chronopost France over the last 20 years. The express delivery specialist is trialling new solutions and technologies for last-mile delivery to individuals and businesses, in search of a balanced logistic model that will offer time and energy gains.

In this context, Chronopost France's CEO, Martin Piechowski, is dedicated to continuing the efforts already underway: "Creating a fleet of 100% low emission vehicles for delivery to the city of Paris is a commitment and a huge investment in the future. We've been working with the Paris City Council for many years and are jointly trialling new logistics models in the heart of the French capital, as well as at our pioneering Urban Logistics Areas of Concorde and Beaugrenelle, and most recently Bercy. Electric vehicles now have sufficient autonomy to allow us to deploy them on a large scale throughout Paris. We're also studying a denser network model for last-mile delivery in the city centre, bringing the logistics function back to the heart of the cities, without disruption to the environment of local residents", he says.
