User-centric solutions to reduce emissions & pollutions

DPDgroup has designed signature services: innovative products and services that truly respond to citizens’ needs, providing more flexibility and freedom to customers, while increasing delivery efficiency.

Predict lets recipients across Europe know the exact timeslot their parcel will arrive. By sending delivery information in advance via SMS or email, there’s no more waiting around. It’s also easy to change the time, day or place of delivery if plans change.

Our interactive delivery service, Predict, not only meets consignees’ expectations but also reduces DPDgroup’s ‘business to consumer’ last mile CO2 emissions by 4%[1].

We are constantly developing our Pickup network and now offer over 32,000 pickup points across Europe. This service allows consignees to collect the parcel at their convenience, close to their work or home, while making our service more efficient by consolidating several deliveries at a single location and thus reducing distances and pollutions.

Carbon neutral deliveries at no extra cost

DPDgroup is committed to providing all customers with carbon-neutral parcel shipping at no additional cost. Carbon neutral commitment of DPDgroup is part of DrivingChangeTM programme and relies on three interrelated principles:

  • Measuring closely its CO2 footprint
  • Reducing its emissions supported by an internal carbon fund, using alternative fuel vehicles and fuel-efficient driving, optimising routes and maximising load capacity of the fleet. Moreover, the addition of 2000 vehicles complying with Euro 6 norm reduced the average age of our fleet below 5 years. In 2017, DPDgroup achieved a 11.2% reduction in its CO2 emissions per parcel compared to 2013, meeting its 2020 carbon reduction target far in advance. In 2017, DPDgroup committed to Sciences Based Target initiative to define its next carbon reduction ambition.
  • Offsetting through investments in 7 renewable and clean energy projects which are verified by the most rigorous standards on the market.

DPDgroup is the CEP sector world leader on the voluntary carbon offset market. This makes up almost 5% of all the CO2 emissions voluntarily offset within Europe.

Smart urban delivery initiatives to tackle city challenges

The increasing number of parcels to be delivered each year sets a number of challenges for the cities whether it is in terms of traffic, volume, noise, CO2 footprint.

Some significant steps have already been made and DPDgroup is providing urban delivery solutions in several towns throughout Europe.

For example, DPD Germany operates deliveries by cargo bike combined with an inner-city micro depot mainly to private consignees in Nuremberg.

In these densely populated residential areas with a high stop density, the cargo bikes are moving smoothly through the inner-city traffic. By doing so, they can deliver almost as many parcels as conventional delivery vans do. The cargo bikes, deployed in combination with a micro-depot, delivered over 80, 000 parcels in 2017. Their operation is equivalent to 16 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided, and the reduction of 25% for nitrogen oxides (NOX) and 33% for particulate matter (PM). This pilot project won a prize under the supervision of the Nuremberg Institute of Technology. DPD Germany will launch other initiatives based on this experience.

“As a delivery expert, our actions are designed to be the most efficient possible, thus we focus on areas where we can make the biggest difference and support the key changes of our society. In support of urban logistics projects, all European business units began building tailored urban logistics schemes, by adopting new urban locations and opting for low carbon transport alternatives. This is a crucial step to better contribute to reducing pollution and congestion in city centres” Paul-Marie Chavanne, President and CEO of GeoPost/DPDgroup.
