DPDgroup enters the 2018 peak period with Black Friday

16 November 2018 - Black Friday has become the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season.
72%[1] of e-shoppers consider it important to know the delivery company at the moment of purchase. 

 

DPDgroup expects a 20% increase in parcel volumes, reaching a peak of 8 million parcels on 22 December

Online retail has continued its double-digit growth, with European e-commerce turnover increasing by 11% to €534 billion in 2017 and forecasted to grow by 13% to €602 billion in 2018[2].

E-commerce volumes are all the more significant at the end of the year, starting with “Black Friday” on 23 November this year, followed by “Cyber Monday” on 26 November and then the Christmas period.

This period has now extended into the first half of January, with online gift reselling and returns in the CEP market (Courier, Express, and Parcel).

This year, DPDgroup expects a 20% growth of its volumes and estimates to deliver 8 million parcels on the busiest day.

 

DPDgroup is ready for the challenge

As a delivery expert, DPDgroup takes concrete steps beforehand:

  • Opening and production hours and shift times are extended throughout the 900 depots;
  • Many routes and drivers are added to the Pick-up and Delivery fleet to facilitate the increased demand during peak weeks;
  • Planning of additional International Linehaul capacity;
  • Enhanced coordination between the operations and sales departments, where earlier pick-ups are assessed in close communication with the customers.

At this crucial time of the year for our market, DPDgroup reveals in avant-première one key data of its latest e-shopper barometer: 72%[1] of e-shoppers consider it important to know the delivery company at the moment of purchase, as they feel reassured to know who will deliver their parcel.
