Interview with Georgios

The voice behind DPD: Our Georgios

DPD: ‘How long have you been working at DPD and how did you end up at DPD in the first place?’
Georgios: ‘I have been working at DPD for almost a year now – I started in June 2021. How did I end up here? I used to work in a start-up where I largely dealt with management tasks. However, after the pandemic, I decided that I wanted to go back to the front end of sales. I already knew a couple of DPD managers from before and, to cut a long story short, I joined DPD and I have not looked back once to this day.’

DPD: ‘What field do you work in at DPD and what do you particularly like about it?’
Georgios: ‘I am a Field Sales Executive. In this role, I mainly look after our medium-sized customers. My work in this field really is diverse. It ranges from administrative tasks like preparing quotations and adjusting prices to active customer acquisition and direct customer support. In other words, from customer acquisition to customer support.
This variety is what I like best.’

DPD: How would you describe working at DPD?
Georgios: ‘There is a lot of camaraderie in the way people work and interact with one another at DPD. If you want, you can approach any manager directly without having to jump through any major hoops. Just recently, I had a quick chat about music with our CEO. You notice how much everyone’s personality is valued.’

DPD: How do you spend your time outside of work?
Georgios: ‘With my family and my dog, of course. I have a young daughter and we do lots of different things together, be it excursions or something sporty like basketball. Besides my family, Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a personal hobby of mine which I practice a number of times per week. This martial art focuses on ground fighting and is an evolution of the Japanese martial art. I have been doing martial arts for practically my entire life. I have already tried a lot of them out. I boxed for years and have practised mixed martial arts (MMA).

When I was young, martial arts really helped me to ground myself and find a balance. Personally, I have a very ambitious nature and I love to gauge my progress, which ties in exceptionally well with martial arts😉.’

DPD: If your best friend were to describe you in one sentence, what would it most likely be?
Georgios: ‘Georgios is a very loyal, open, honest, sarcastic and crazy guy whom you can absolutely count on and who says what he's thinking.’

DPD: Is there anything you would want to do again?
Georgios: ‘I would absolutely love to dive and swim with great white sharks again in a shark cage. I have two absolute favourite animals: the wolf and the great white shark. To me, these animals represent the pinnacle of strength, dominance and serenity combined with intelligence and cunning. I can identify with those attributes too.’

DPD: ‘You do have a few tattoos. Despite that, is there anywhere on your body where you would never get a tattoo?
Georgios: ‘Yes, the soles of my feet and my eyeballs. I have heard that those spots are extremely painful to tattoo and I would hardly ever even see the tattoo in spite of the pain.’

DPD: Do you tend to be more spontaneous or a creature of habit?
Georgios: ‘I am the spontaneous type because I quickly get bored of routines.’

DPD: What has been the biggest challenge in your life so far?
Georgios: ‘There is one very clear challenge and it is one that I’m still facing. To be a good father. There is absolutely no job more difficult than that in my eyes. It is the only job where I totally doubt myself because there is no perfect guide on how to do it.’
