In all DPD-owned depots we source renewable energy from hydro or solar power. Our approach: we measure our CO2-emissions and work actively to reduce them. DPD Switzerland has set itself the goal of reducing at least 90 % of greenhouse gas emissions (compared to 2020) by 2040 at the latest.

This is how we achieve our goal:

  • We increase the efficiency of our transport network, for example through route optimisation
  • We develop innovative delivery solutions
  • We are increasingly using vehicles with alternative drive systems

Our road to a greener future

The entire delivery fleet will be electrified by 2030 and the line haul fleet by 2035. All our depots already obtain electricity from 100 % renewable energies today.

World record with our e-truck

DPD Switzerland, together with partners Continental and Futuricum, set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title in 2021 for the longest distance driven by an e-truck without intermediate charging. The electric truck was the highest capacity in Europe and covered a total of 1'099 kilometres in 23 hours!

Fully electric e-trucks

Our e-truck fleet is constantly expanding. Several e-trucks of the brand Futuricum of the type Logistics 18E are on the roads, which were developed by Designwerk Products AG on the basis of a vehicle from Volvo. The e-trucks are equipped with the largest batteries available in Europe with a storage capacity of 900 kilowatts and have a range of up to 760 km per battery charge. The e-trucks are charged exclusively with Swiss green electricity. One e-truck saves about 72 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Green Strategy

What is the Green Strategy? The goal is to achieve emission-free parcel delivery in at least ten Swiss cities by 2025 and to fill 30% of our entire fleet with electric vehicles. In order to contribute more and more to climate protection and to do something ourselves, we would like to work with our partners to equip our depots with solar energy and to use renewable solar energy locally as fuel for our delivery vans and e-trucks.

Predict – the innovative delivery solution

Predict Predict

Predict – the innovative delivery solution

Our delivery solution Predict lowers the number of unsuccessful delivery attempts and cuts both resources and CO2-emissions. With Predict, recipients can activate parcel delivery notifications by e-mail or SMS and enter a one-hour time window. Recipients can track parcels that are out for delivery in real time and can choose from a range of alternative delivery options up to 15 minutes before the parcel is delivered. This means that recipients have the freedom to receive parcels exactly where and when they like. We can use Predict to optimise our routes, improve our first-time delivery rate and cut our CO2-emissions.

A transition to rails to save up to ten truck journeys

We have transitioned our tyre transport from the road to rails and are now saving up to ten truck journeys and around 1.2 tonnes of CO2 per night. We are currently examining all of our line operations for potential transitions to relieve even more pressure on the road network and lower our CO2-emissions even further.
