Thirty years of DPD Switzerland: interview with Achim

A lot happens in 30 years. And that’s how it is at DPD, too. The most important thing is the people behind the scenes, the ones working hard every day to keep things moving. We decided to get to know some of these people a little better, and you can read about it here:

1. Is there anything in particular you really enjoy doing?

I’m very interested in football, snooker and golf, and I love watching these sports on television. I also really love going to concerts, particularly to see bands like Depeche Mode and AC/DC, or artists like Elton John. I’ve always loved listening to good music and enjoying a cold beer.
I also really like working with other people. I like the interactions and learning from one another.

2. Do you like to travel, and if so, where do you like to go?

I love travelling. My favourite destination in the world is Madeira. It’s an island that has practically everything that nature has to offer. The people there are very warm and the food is terrific. When I’m there, I hop straight on a scooter and explore the island. There’s nothing like it!

3. What would you say are your defining characteristics?

I would say my reliability and directness. By that, I mean that I can sometimes be quite direct in my communication style. I have a very curious nature and I like to explore how processes can be optimised. I’m also very interested in new technologies, because it’s very important for everyone to have some digital literacy nowadays.

4. When did your journey with DPD Switzerland begin?

My DPD journey began in Germany on 1 March 2003. I then moved to DPD Switzerland on 1 January 2022.

5. What do you like most about DPD Switzerland?

Things are always exciting at DPD. What I particularly like about DPD Switzerland is that we have a great ‘we culture’ here and the focus is always on people – be it customers, consignees or employees.

6. Do you have any regrets during your time at DPD?

To be honest, practically nothing. Except for the fact that, despite the very international nature of my work, I have sort of neglected to learn other languages. I’d love to be able to speak several languages, particularly as this is quite normal here in Switzerland. In other words, language can break down walls.

7. You came here from DPD Germany. Do you see any major differences between your colleagues in Germany and those in Switzerland?

The ability to excel at other languages and being really friendly and respectful.

8. When you think back, what are some of the things that have played a big part in your life?

From a very early age, team sports were very important in my life. I learned one thing in particular from this: alone, you are nothing. Other than that, I would say the development of my childhood. Simply growing up in and of itself.

9. What motivates you to get up every morning?

My alarm clock. 😄 But joking aside, I’m motivated by enjoying my work and having the chance to have nice chats with my colleagues.

10. If money were no object, what would be your greatest wish?

My greatest wish would be to own a house in Madeira. My favourite place in the world.

11. Is there any advice in particular you would like to share with your fellow human beings?

Always be honest and open with yourself and with the people around you. Always be respectful and remain true to yourself. Whatever happens.

12. How long would you like to live?

There’s a song that comes to mind here: Forever young. In short, if you stay healthy, then for a long, long time.
