Interview with Leo

The voice behind DPD: Our Leo

DPD: ‘How long have you been working at DPD?’
Leo: ‘I’ve been working at DPD for four years now. I started in March 2018.’

DPD: ‘How did you hear about DPD and why did you apply?’
Leo: ‘It’s a funny story because I did not apply to DPD in the traditional way. Three months before I came to DPD, I had founded my own start-up and was living with someone who had just started in HR at DPD. Speaking with him, it became clear that they were looking for someone to digitise documents. I thought I could do that on the side and so I took on a sort of student job at DPD.’

DPD: ‘What are your duties at DPD and what do you particularly like about them?’
Leo: ‘My title is Projects and Relations Specialist. My work involves maintaining and cultivating relationships with our employees and promoting the public image of the DPD brand as an excellent employer. This encompasses fields of work such as organising Future Day, drawing up internal and external communication strategies and clarifying employee benefits. Over time, I have also ended up producing video content for the purposes of HR marketing.

What I particularly like about my job is having my own freedom. In other words, I feel like an entrepreneur in the company. In my experience, DPD is very open to collaborative projects like this, in which you can act on your own initiative and accomplish your own goals. We, by which I mean myself and DPD, get things done. That matches my own philosophy very nicely – just do it.’

DPD: ‘If you had to think up a slogan to describe DPD as an employer, what would it be?’
Leo: ‘If the sports brand whose name escapes me had not already come up with it, I would have picked “Just do it!” as a slogan to describe DPD as an employer.’

DPD: ‘DPD played a part in your marriage proposal too. Tell us about the idea, how it came about and what you thought about it.’
Leo: ‘How did it come about? I always struggled to find the right moment to ask my wife to marry me. It might sound a little odd, but the pandemic helped me take the plunge. I had a lot of time to think about how I might surprise her. All that mattered to me was that the moment was completely genuine and reflected what I stand for. And so, in time, I came up with the idea of a video shoot.

Marketing helped me develop the story in which a DPD driver delivers the ring.

My wife knew nothing about it, so the surprise was a resounding success for everyone.’

DPD: ‘How do you spend your time outside of work?’
Leo: ‘I spend most of the time with my family, my start-up, my new pizza oven and my Blackmagic Cinema camera.’

DPD: ‘Do you have a passion, and if so, can you tell us more about it?’
Leo: ‘No, I don’t have one exactly. Curiosity is my passion. I love looking at a wide range of situations in life through the eyes of a child, because it unlocks new perspectives and ways of seeing things.’

DPD: ‘Do you like to travel, and if so, do you have a favourite place?’
Leo: ‘Yes, I love to travel, but Italy is the only place I know very well. 😀 My favourite place is Salento in Apulia. What I love most about travelling is the cuisine. Food unlocks wonderful emotions.’ That being said, I would like to travel around the world, and I hope that I will be able to do that one day.

DPD: ‘Can you imagine living without a mobile phone?’
Leo: ‘I would really like to try that, but at the moment it is not an option. I would not know how to live without YouTube or the videos in which pizza experts reveal the secrets of the perfect Neapolitan pizza!’

DPD: ‘If you’re having a bad day, what do you do to cheer yourself up?’
Leo: ‘I have a variety of methods if I am feeling bad. I try to be thankful for the life I have, or I watch my children doing the simplest things. If that still isn’t enough for any reason, I take a cold shower and do a mental reset. Generally speaking, one of those things is usually very helpful.’

DPD: ‘What has been your biggest life lesson so far?’
Leo: ‘The birth of my children, especially my first child, because it was an entirely new, profound experience which showed me what I have to focus on in my life.’
