Interview with Hannes

The voice behind DPD: Our Hannes

DPD: How long have you been working for DPD?
Hannes: "I have been working for DPD since 1 January 2020.

DPD: How did you get from marketing to customer service?
Hannes: "I started at DPD with a 12-month internship in marketing. During this internship I focused on building up the social media channels and was heavily involved in content creation. After the internship I wanted to stay as a part of the DPD family and took the opportunity to work as a Front Office Specialist in our customer service team. Besides my role in customer service, I can still with content creation for our social media channels and our blog."

DPD: From speaking, you are originally from Germany: Where exactly are you from and what brought you to Switzerland?
Hannes: "I'm from the north of Germany, near Düsseldorf to be precise. I came to Switzerland in 2018. To be honest, Switzerland was never on my agenda, however I have always been interested in new cultures and countries. In the past, I also lived in South Africa and California for a while. Going to Switzerland was the idea of a very good friend. I then decided to go with him and start a new chapter.”

DPD: You said that you had also lived in South Africa and California. What brought you there?
Hannes: "Yes, I went to a language school there to improve my English skills. Moreover, I wanted to make new friends and experience various adventures. I chose these two places because both South Africa and California are among my absolute favourite places in the world."

DPD: What do you particularly like about DPD as an employer?
Hannes: "What I particularly like about DPD is the team and the cohesion among all my colleagues. There is a great working atmosphere and if you have any questions, you are always helped very quickly."

DPD: What was the best / most surprising interview you've had at CS so far?
Hannes: "I have had many nice conversations in customer service so far. But one in particular has stayed in my mind, and that was when I spoke to consignee. She was very upset that she hadn't received her parcel. In the end I was able to calm her down with my suggestions about how to proceed and we had a short exchange about my clear pronunciation and where I was coming from 😊."

DPD: You tend to be the calmer type, but I'm sure there's something that can get you riled up. What would that be? 😊
Hannes: "An exciting question. I don't have much understanding for absolute stubbornness. I think there has to be a certain interest and willingness to cooperate. Without showing any know-it-all attitude. Otherwise it can quickly lead to unnecessary discussions that only drain valuable energy from both parties."

DPD: Do you have a motto or something that is like a daily motivation for you?
Hannes: "Yes actually several. For example:
The quality of your questions determines the quality of your life.
Where the focus goes, energy flows.
Follow through what you have started."

DPD: Why this mottos exactly?
Hannes: "Everyone is responsible for their own life and what they do. That's why it's important to listen to your body and your mind. To me, these mottos show that it's important to never stand still and always take a step forward, educate yourself and do what makes you happy."

DPD: What could you not do without in your life?
Hannes: "The air, the water and social contacts 😊."
