DPD Driver to Represent South Africa at Global Delivery Excellence Challenge

Cape Town-based delivery driver Samir Davids has been named DPD South Africa’s top driver for 2025, earning him a spot at the global Delivery Excellence Challenge (DEC) final in London this October.

After nine years with the business, Samir’s consistent performance, sharp navigation skills, and ability to remain calm under pressure have earned him widespread recognition and now, international opportunity.

The 2025 local challenge focused on three key criteria, and Samir stood out across the board:

  • Total number of successful stops completed
  • Delivery compliance KPIs
  • Overall attendance and reliability

His route is one of the most demanding in the Western Cape, covering high-risk areas that require precise execution and sound judgment. Despite the daily pressures, he continues to deliver with accuracy and professionalism. “I’m overwhelmed with happiness and pride,” he says. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m excited to represent South Africa on a global stage.”

Remarkably, just two years ago, Samir could barely reverse a vehicle, and today he’s being celebrated as South Africa’s top driver – a testament to his growth mindset, discipline, and love for the job. “I enjoy being on the road,” says Samir. “There’s a great sense of satisfaction seeing an empty vehicle at the end of the day, knowing the customers are happy.”

What he found most rewarding about the challenge was the pace: “Receiving live updates from dispatch during the day and tracking my progress, it really pushed me.” Nick Vroom, Chief Operations Officer at DPD South Africa, praised Samir’s focus and mental strength, saying

“He has exceptional memory recall for street names and can navigate without relying on a GPS. Samir stays calm under pressure and consistently pushes himself beyond the benchmark of achievable deliveries. His performance reflects excellence, especially considering the complexity of the route he handles every day.”
