At DPD, we believe that excellence starts with our people, and Mosibudi Florence Thoka is proof of that. Known by most simply as Florence, she’s a familiar face along her Melrose route and a symbol of heart, resilience and breaking boundaries in a male-dominated industry.
Her story is one of growth and perseverance. Florence’s journey with DPD began through a learnership, and over the years she’s turned that opportunity into a career she’s deeply proud of. “DPD has empowered me. I started here through a learnership, and now I can see real growth,” she says.
But it’s more than just growth that drives her. “It’s the drive that comes with the job – the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. That feeling… the happiness on a client’s face when they receive their parcel – it makes me happy. It’s so rewarding. I feel like I’m making a positive impact in people’s lives.”
Her passion for helping others runs deep. After finishing school, Florence even pursued Basic Ambulance Courses, pursuing her calling to serve and help those around her. That same energy fuels her every delivery, and it’s evident in the way she treats every client she meets. “DPD gives me that edge,” she says. “Motho ke motho ka batho” which means, “a person is a person through others” – a beautiful quote that inspires her to learn from those around her and see the value in community.
In an industry often dominated by men, she sets the bar high and drives forward with purpose, care, and a deep belief in the power of human connection. Whether she’s being called “the beautiful courier lady” by friendly customers or going the extra mile to brighten someone’s day, Florence reminds us what people-first delivery really means.
