What to look for when starting an e-shop?

  • Define the target audience that you wish to reach with your product/service. All potential clients are located in Latvia, the Baltic States, the European Union, or outside of Europe. According to your target audience, you can choose the easiest and most suitable method of delivery, be it courier deliveries and/or deliveries within the Pickup network. The main criteria that determine your choice in favor of the DPD Pickup network and/or courier deliveries are the size and weight of the parcel, the product specification, and the habits of your e-store’s target audience.

  • Choose the platform on which the e-store will be made. You have two options: choose an already prepared platform, such as Woocommerce, PrestaShop, Shopify, OpenCart, Magento, etc., or create your own integration system. E-stores that usually choose an individual integration solution have a planned purchase amount of more than 100 a day, during the implementation process of which, these stores must take into account that their expenses will be higher and that they will require additional IT resources, whose task is to connect the e-store system with the systems of the warehouses and affiliates.

If you choose the prepared platform, DPD offers ready plug-ins that can be integrated within a couple of minutes. When integrating the plug-in, the trader must state the methods of delivery, expenses, and the final delivery date. The task of the plug-in is to make the processing of the orders quick and easy, as the purchase client enters their own data, selects the method of delivery (DPD Pickup network or courier delivery), and the trader receives an already summarised version of this information. All they have to do is print a packing list/sticker to be added to the shipment and transfer the order to the DPD courier or transfer it to the nearest DPD Pickup point network (DPD Parcel Locker or Parcel Shop).

If the e-store is built on a platform that doesn’t have an available delivery section plug-in to create an automatic order preparation, the orders must be registered in the DPD program manually where the packing lists/stickers will be made.

How to choose the appropriate delivery options for my e-store?

  • Since clients of internet stores live in various places, DPD is the best affiliate because our Pickup point network (Parcel Locker and Parcel Shop) encompasses all of Latvia and is available 24/7.

  • It is also important to offer the clients the choice of courier delivery, this option is usually selected, if the client has ordered fragile or especially expensive goods, or if the goods are of a non-standard shape and size. Likewise, many clients find it more convenient to receive the shipment at their home or work.

  • DPD Latvia also provides deliveries in the Baltic States and Europe. The aim of any e-store is growth, so it pays to foresee that clients might reside in other European countries. DPD is the best partner for geographical growth, as we also make deliveries in Europe.

What does the client pay attention to when selecting the method of delivery?

  • FREE DELIVERY: regardless of how much money clients spend on purchases in your store, everyone enjoys free delivery. If you cannot provide free deliveries for all of your clients, you can state a certain purchase amount, starting from which the client can receive free delivery.
  • THE OPTION TO RETURN THE PURCHASE FREE OF CHARGE: lately, buyers in Latvia also opt to use their rights to return the purchased goods more and more frequently. If the client is offered the option to return the goods or a part of their purchase free of charge, buyers are more willing to make purchases and choose a larger quantity of goods more readily. DPD has covered the return of the purchase at the stage of processing the order – the trader is provided with a return packing list/sticker to be added to the shipment. This system makes it easier for the trader to trace the shipment because it is ensured that all returned purchases come from the same parcel supplier. At any rate, the return packing list and free delivery make for a great client experience.

  • CLEAR INFORMATION on the delivery options/expenses: full and clear information on the delivery expenses must be available to the client before they make the order. Internet stores that don’t present this information with the client in mind often experience interrupted purchases right before the finalization of the order because the client sees the actual expenses and drops the purchase. If the terms of the delivery are clear from the start, a much larger amount of purchases is finalized and clients tend to not suddenly change their minds.

  • RECIPIENT-CENTRED DELIVERY PROCESS: DPD organizes its deliveries so they offer the utmost convenience to the recipient. This process includes the option to trace the shipment in real-time. DPD also provides information to the recipient on when the parcel will be delivered a day in advance. On the day of the delivery, the client receives an SMS stating an accurate time interval (one hour) during which the courier will arrive. If the client has chosen a different method of delivery, the client receives an SMS with a PIN code that will allow them to withdraw the parcel from the Pickup point network (DPD Parcel Locker or DPD Parcel Shop).

  • CURRENT EXPERIENCE: reputation is important in any field and the client’s previous experience has a large say in whether they will choose the service again, that is why DPD has an incredibly high standard of quality.

  • FLEXIBILITY: not all things in life can be predicted, so quite often help comes in the form of DPD’s option to change the location or day of the delivery, or to transfer the courier delivery to the nearest DPD Pickup point – this type of flexibility provides the client with the best experience.

  • DELIVERY SPEED: it matters a great deal how quickly the client receives their parcel. Often enough goods are being shipped for specific events, in these cases, even one day can make a difference.

How does the delivery happen? How long does it take to deliver a parcel from the moment of its transfer?

The shipment can be transferred in two ways: a DPD courier can collect it from the shipper or the shipper can transfer the shipment to a Pickup point network (DPD Parcel Locker or DPD Parcel Shop). The courier delivers all shipments to the main DPD sorting point in Rīga where they are processed and distributed in route areas. All shipments, including the ones going to the Baltic States, are then transferred for delivery the next business day. Deliveries to Europe happen within 2–8 business days.
