In 2019, the parcel services provider DPD Lietuva reported record-breaking revenue of 34.5 million euros – an increase of 13.8 percent compared to the 2018 result. The company’s revenue grew more quickly than the market as a result of the expansion in both the B2B and B2C parcel segments, as well as an increase in parcel exports.
“In the first nine months of 2019, DPD Lietuva’s revenue was higher by 3.48 million euros than in the same period of the previous year. The company grew significantly faster than the market which, according to the Lithuanian Communications Regulatory Authority, expanded by 11.7 percent. This was the result of a14.9 percent increase in parcel shipments in all segments,” summarised Robertas Vilkaitis, CEO of DPD Lietuva.
The growth was largely driven by B2B parcel deliveries – their number increased by 8.9 percent, while the online commerce segment went up by 18 percent and the number of parcel exports grew by 20.5 percent. The number of parcel imports also increased significantly – by 25 percent – indicating a higher volume of purchases from foreign online shops.
Investments in the infrastructure and service quality
In 2019, the company’s return on assets (ROA) was 11 percent, which means that the investments and assets under management were used efficiently and contributed to the development of the company’s business, allowing DPD Group to remain competitive and secure the trust of its shareholders. This year, DPD Lietuva is planning to invest 1.6 million euros in its infrastructure and service quality.
“What matters most to both our loyal business clients and private parcel recipients is our ability to provide high quality services; in this regard, the 2019 results show that we are on the right path. The share of our successful deliveries on the first attempt was 99.5 percent, and we maintained this level throughout the entire year, even during our most active period – the holidays. In addition, our clients rated the work of our couriers with a score of 4.9 out of 5 in the annual client survey conducted by DPD Lietuva, in which 71,000 of our parcel recipients provided their feedback. This was not surprising, since quality is one of the key benefits that our clients receive by working with us,” added the CEO of DPD Lietuva.
Expansion of the DPD Pickup terminal network
Another notable change occurred in relation to the use of the self-service parcel lockers, which increased by 280 percent compared to 2018. This was due to the timely expansion of the Pickup network, as well as the growth of online commerce and the rapidly growing popularity of this environmentally-friendlier way of delivering parcels.
“We saw a similar growth trend in the previous year. In addition, our self-service parcel lickers have been well-received by users: on average 71 percent of both senders and recipients would recommend using them. It is a clear sign for us to continue planning further investments and the expansion of our parcel locker network,” Vilkaitis stated.
