DPD and MasterCard Launches Partnership to encourage card payments to the courier

Mastercard and DPD have launched a partnership designed to encourage direct card payments on delivery for goods purchased online, and to increase financial inclusion.

The solution, initially launched in 2016, aims to become a fast and secure payment alternative, both for the consumer and for the courier, who is forced to carry large amounts of money during working hours in order to eliminate a factor. of risk.
"It happens to everyone that, when the courier arrives at the address, we do not have cash with us to pay for the package, and, most of the time, the road to the nearest ATM is a waste of time for us, as well as for the courier, who has to wait.

In this sense, the option of paying by card directly upon delivery is more than welcome, especially due to the security and ease with which payment can be made in this way ", said Cosmin Vladimirescu, Country Manager Mastercard Romania.

"Direct card payment upon delivery is a significant benefit for both our couriers and recipients. A DPD courier makes an average of 60 deliveries a day, and can carry a considerable amount on it, subject to risks that we would like to remove them.

We also understand that our recipients need flexibility and handy solutions, which do not involve additional worries and travel outside the location, in order to pay for delivery. The partnership with Mastercard helps us to facilitate the efforts of all parties involved, and delivery is made quickly, safely, without hassle, "said Karla Codrea, CEO of DPD Romania.

The mPOS service is already provided by DPD and can be used for any type of delivery, both for the payment of the refund amount and for the payment of the parcel transport.

In addition, the card payment option through this service solves a number of common shortcomings for couriers and customers alike, such as those associated with handling and managing cash on delivery.

The service is addressed to both companies and consumers, and currently over 600 mPOS devices owned by DPD couriers are available.
