DPD Lietuva introduces its sustainability strategy, also known as ESG, outlining the company’s commitments across various sustainability fields. The strategy specifies goals in key sustainability areas and highlights environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities. As one of the first parcel delivery companies in Lithuania to electrify vehicles, DPD Lietuva remains committed to furthering its contribution to combating climate change.

“The aim of our strategy is to define the company’s long-term vision, goals, and methods for integrating sustainable practices into our operations. The ESG strategy serves as a tool for the company to actively manage and forecast environmental impact while achieving economic and social goals. Given the rapidly changing global climate, we place special emphasis on environmental objectives. Therefore, we adapt and innovate towards new sustainability-focused initiatives," says Robertas Vilkaitis, CEO of DPD Lietuva.

Mitigating Climate Change

According to Markas Ąžuolas, Sustainability Manager at DPD Lietuva, one of the key focuses of the ESG strategy is climate change. The company is committed to implementing proactive and systematic actions that make a significant contribution to mitigating climate change.

“At the company group level, we have established short and long-term goals for reducing emissions. Our aim is to reduce CO2 emissions by 43% by 2030 and achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2040. Each year, we actively reduce transport pollution and transition our parcel delivery vehicles to less polluting alternatives,” says M. Ąžuolas.

“Our couriers have been operating electric vehicles for more than two years. Recently, it has been observed that this initiative not only helps achieve our environmental goals but also improves the working conditions of our couriers.

We currently have 72 electric vehicles in the company’s fleet. Electric vehicles mark a new era of sustainability in the parcel delivery market. Their development is one of the measures that brings us closer to our goal: by 2035, all vehicles used by the company group should be electrified,” says the Sustainability Manager.

Social Responsibility

According to the CEO of DPD Lietuva, caring for employees and ensuring good working conditions are integral parts of social responsibility. The company is committed to promoting employee diversity and ensuring equal opportunities for all employees.

“We aim to retain our employees and enhance their skills by providing good working conditions, transparent and competitive pay. We offer continuous employee development, access to training, opportunities to upgrade qualifications, and ensure safe working conditions. Additionally, we actively promote employee self-expression, such as offering a paid volunteering day to contribute to important community activities,” states R. Vilkaitis.

The new sustainability strategy emphasises the company’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in society.

“We have been collaborating with the organization Vaikų svajonės (Children’s Dreams) for ten years, delivering gifts to children across Lithuania annually, thereby contributing to fulfilling their dreams. Following a similar principle, we participated in the civic campaign Milijonas vaistinėlių Ukrainai (Million First Aid Kits For Ukraine), collecting first-aid kits from various regions of Lithuania. This year, we plan to partner in social projects such as Vaikai su (ne)GALIA (Children With (DIS)ABILITY), I Can You Can, Save the Baltics, and Breath. Additionally, we have maintained a long-standing partnership with Maisto bankas (Food Bank),” says the CEO of DPD Lietuva.

Responsible Business

The company commits to ensuring high business ethics, actively preventing corruption and fraud, and managing conflicts of interest.

“Transparent communication is the basis of responsible business, making it one of our most important obligations. We strive to build long-term relationships with sustainable partners and provide transparent financial results to the public. Additionally, we educate our employees on business ethics and ensure the protection of human rights in all company activities,” states R. Vilkaitis.

According to the CEO of DPD Lietuva, the plan for 2025 includes publishing the first sustainability report. This report will provide a better understanding of the company’s sustainability activities, achieved results, applied measures, and evaluate the company’s progress over the years.
