The packaging material used must be suitable for the weight of the parcel’s contents. So check that the packaging is strong enough. Will you be sending more than one parcel? Ensure that you provide each parcel with a parcel label. You may not stick or bundle parcels together.
Outer packaging
Make sure you pack the goods in a sturdy square or rectangular cardboard box. This outer packaging must always be tightly sealed. Always seal the edges with tape. The contents of the parcel must not protrude from the packaging.
Packing boxes can be bought which are specially designed for shipping goods. These are stronger and offer the best possible protection for the contents of your parcel. Whatever packaging or filling materials you choose, always check that there is no damage. Make sure you remove (old) barcodes and that the addresses are complete and clearly legible.

Is the box larger than the article? Always fill the space around the item completely. Use soft filling material for light goods and stronger filling material for heavier items. This will ensure the correct protection and prevent the items from shifting in the packaging.
Make sure that the contents of the parcel cannot move. Are you shipping several items in one parcel? Then fill the box with the material that’s suitable for protecting the most vulnerable item. Also be sure you have enough filling material so that the items in the box do not come into contact with the outer packaging.

Ensure that the recipient’s address is marked fully and clearly on the packaging. For express deliveries at home and abroad, also add the telephone number to the recipient’s address.

Parcels may not weigh more than 31.5 kg. For parcels that you send from or to a Pickup parcelshop, the maximum weight is 20 kilos. You also need to be aware of the maximum length of your parcel. For parcels that go to or from a Pickup parcelshop, this is 1 meter. For parcels not routed through a parcelshop, the maximum length is 1.75 m.
Size
You should also take the size of your parcel into account.
The total size is calculated as follows: length + 2 x width + 2 x height.
The maximum size is 3 metres. Are you sending your parcel from or to a Pickup parcelshop? Then the maximum size may not exceed 2.5 m.

Volume weight
Volume weight
The volume weight is only relevant for DPD International Express parcels.
The volume weight is the ratio between the space a parcel occupies in the aircraft and the weight of the parcel. This is important information for loading a passenger aircraft as economically and ecologically as possible. Is the volume weight higher than the actual weight in kilograms? Then we base the price for airfreight packages on the volume weight.
The volume weight is calculated as follows:
Length (cm) x width (cm) x height (cm) / 5000

Make sure you put the parcel label on the largest surface of the parcel. Do not stick any other stickers over the parcel label. Do you use strapping tapes or markings? Make sure they do not cover the DPD parcel label.
Packaging film
Are you using packaging film? Then make sure that the area around the parcel label is smooth and that there is no print on it. Do you want to be sure that the film you use gets through the DPD system without any problems? We will be happy to test it for you in advance. That lets you avoid any later problems.
