New DPD depot Amsterdam increases capacity by 60%

Parcel service DPD has opened an innovative distribution centre at the Nieuwe Liede business park in Vijfhuizen. The new distribution centre expands DPD's logistic capacity to 13.3 million parcels per year, answering to the growing demand in the Greater Amsterdam area. The new location has a floor area of more than 11,000m2 and a sorting machine more than 500 metres long. The new centre has produced approximately 100 new jobs

The new distribution centre was developed in collaboration with Goodman developers on four hectares of land. The building boasts more than 11,000m2 and its roof has approximately 2,000 solar panels, producing 648,000 watts. Like the HUB in Eindhoven that opened last year, the new centre has the latest technology in use.  Its hyper-modern LS-4000 CB sorting machine, also known as a ‘green sorter’, is the most energy efficient of its class and is more than four times more efficient than comparable sorting machines. With a capacity of 5,500 parcels per hour, it has more than enough flexibility to take on peaks.

Internationally

DPD is equipped to answer to growing demands and to expand accessibility to its Predict service among recipients. The Amsterdam area, alongside Eindhoven and Rotterdam, is seen as one of the most important logistical hotspots in the Netherlands. By modernising and expanding, DPD is ready to answer the call of increasing demand in the future market, bringing international destinations closer by for senders and recipients alike.

Sustainable growth

Eric Dietz, CEO DPD Nederland: “Our new depot Amsterdam in Vijfhuizen builds on the strategy initiated earlier with our HUB Eindhoven. We are equipped to meet the rapid growth of the parcel market and at the same time increase the level of our service. We work every day to provide for the needs of senders and recipients. The new depot Amsterdam enables us to guarantee the speed and flexibility of our service. The depot Amsterdam falls entirely within DPD's ambition to realise growth sustainably through innovation.”
