New distribution centre in Maastricht is part of DPD’s growth strategy

Parcel delivery service DPD opens a distribution centre at the Beatrixhaven industrial estate in Maastricht. With this new distribution centre, DPD further increases its capacity in the delivery of parcels in the Netherlands in order to keep up with the rapid growth in demand. Moreover, DPD reduces its transport movements from the sorting centre in Eindhoven to Maastricht by some 5000 kilometres. This equals a reduction of well over 400 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The new location has a total floor surface area of 6750 m² and a sorting machine of more than 250 metres long. The new centre will create approx. 100 extra jobs.

With a view to the high-level activity around Black Friday and the holiday season, DPD decided 10 weeks ago to open the new distribution centre this week, and that target has  been met. The distribution centre has a floor surface area of almost 5,500 m² business space and 1250 m² office space. By using the space available in a smart way, DPD can sort more than 15,000 parcels per day in order to deliver them in and around Maastricht. Eric Dietz, CEO DPD Nederland: “By opening the Maastricht site, we are further increasing our capacity, so that we can capitalize on the demand from the market and are able to better cope with peak volumes. In addition, we have also looked at ways that allow us to further reduce our carbon footprint. We do so by deploying electrical vehicles, but we also look at ways to plan our routes more efficiently. By opening the Maastricht site, we can also make a significant reduction in our transport-related CO2 emissions.”

The new distribution centre has materialized in collaboration with real-estate agent Boek & Offermans Makelaars.

DrivingChange™
Sustainability is paramount to DPD. DPD takes its responsibility in that respect, both for its customers and for its staff and society at large. For that reason, DPD works in accordance with the DrivingChange™ sustainability programme. This focuses on delivering carbon-neutral parcels without extra costs for the customers. DPD achieves this by a highly efficient process set-up and by deploying various types of electrical vehicle. In 2021, electrical vehicles will be used to deliver parcels in and around Maastricht from the Maastricht site.
