Following Amsterdam and Haarlem, now also electric DPD buses in Eindhoven

With a view to reducing CO2 and particulate matter levels, parcel delivery service DPD is committed to achieving emission-free deliveries in the 30 largest cities in the Netherlands by 2025. This year DPD will take 100 electric buses into use. Today, the first electric buses will start running in and around Eindhoven, covering 44 routes in a sustainable manner from now on. This will reduce CO2 emissions by a total of 301,317 kg per year. Besides these electric buses, DPD has for several years deployed bicycle couriers in Eindhoven. Last January, DPD launched the first electric buses in Amsterdam and Haarlem. The cities of Breda, Groningen and Maastricht will follow during the course of this year.

Since 2012, DPD has been delivering all its parcels carbon neutral without extra costs. The deployment of these electric buses is DPD's next steps towards emission-free delivery, with the aim to cover more than 400 routes in a sustainable manner in 2025. The climate agreement requires that by 2025 delivery in the 30 largest city centres must be free of particulate matter and CO2 emissions by 2025. DPD will take this a step further and extend this commitment not only to the city centre, but to all of the 30 cities.

In order to realise this step towards emission-free delivery, DPD has entered into an agreement with Volkswagen (E-Crafter), Mercedes (E-Sprinter), Renault (E-Master) and Maxus (EV80).

30 emission-free cities in 2025
The 30 cities where DPD will deliver emission free in 2025 are: Almere, Alphen aan den Rijn, Amersfoort, Amsterdam, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Breda, Delft, Dordrecht, The Hague, Ede, Eindhoven, Emmen, Enschede, Groningen, Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Leeuwarden, Leiden, Maastricht, Naaldwijk, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch, Tilburg, Utrecht, Venlo, Zaandam, Zoetermeer and Zwolle.

Eric Dietz, CEO DPD Netherlands: "On the principle that 'we all share the same address',
we are highly motivated to contribute to a better world. We will therefore make our fleet even more sustainable and expand it with electric buses. In January, we started delivering emission-free in Amsterdam and Haarlem, and now we can add Eindhoven to the list. The fleet already included Tripls (e-scooter) and bicycles, which we deployed in Rotterdam and Eindhoven. We have already been operating in a carbon neutral manner, and now we are aiming to make our processes more sustainable on a structural basis, not only in the Netherlands but throughout Europe."

DPDgroup will further reduce CO2 emissions by delivering in 225 European cities with 7,700 electric vehicles by 2025. In addition, DPD International will deploy 3,600 charging points and 80 new urban depots. DPDgroup has set itself the target to reduce CO2 emissions per parcel by a further 30% by 2025. DPDgroup will invest 200 million euro until 2025 to contribute to a better quality of life in 225 cities in Europe.
