Thanks to Breathe, DPD is making an exceptional contribution to a healthier and more sustainable Netherlands. The sensors we are installing on delivery vans and Pickup parcelshops measure the air quality.
It is clear that Breathe is a project with considerable added value. In the European cities where this project has been running for some time, the air measurements by Breathe have led to some positive developments. In Lisbon, for example, the traffic situation around a school has been modified in response to excessively high levels of particulates in the air.
In the Netherlands too, we are taking some important steps with Breathe. For example, DPD is in talks with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management to see whether the Ministry can use our data to develop smart traffic systems further. These traffic systems will then respond when airborne particulate concentrations get too high. As a result, the volume of traffic at certain crossroads can be more tightly controlled. But choices can also be made along certain routes that will improve air quality.
