DPD raises its ambitions for zero-emission deliveries in the 45 largest cities in the Netherlands by 2025

From 2025, municipalities will have the option to introduce a separate Zero Emission zone. International parcel delivery company DPD has set itself the target of zero-emission deliveries in the 45 largest cities in the Netherlands by 2025. What’s more, DPD aims to be fully electric by 2030. Where DPD had previously set itself the target of zero-emission deliveries in 30 Dutch cities, it has now raised this ambition to 45 cities. Precisely because sustainability is such an important issue and DPD wants to make its contribution to a better world.

At present, DPD uses electric vehicles in cities such as Amsterdam, Haarlem and Eindhoven, and there are already 150 charging stations installed at various DPD depots. Added to the list today is Maastricht, with the result that 9 routes will be served sustainably from now on. This will save a total of 73,800 kg of CO2 emissions each year.

Zero-emission deliveries to 45 cities
DPD will be making zero-emission deliveries to a total of 45 cities in 2025. These are: Alkmaar, Almelo, Almere, Alphen aan den Rijn, Amersfoort, Amsterdam, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Assen, Breda, Delft, Deventer, Dordrecht, Ede, Eindhoven, Emmen, Enschede, Gouda, Groningen, Haarlem, Helmond, Hengelo, ’s-Hertogenbosch, Hilversum, Hoofddorp, Hoorn, Leeuwarden, Leiden, Lelystad, Maastricht, Naaldwijk, Nijmegen, Oss, Roosendaal, Rotterdam, Schiedam, Sittard-Geleen, The Hague, Tilburg, Utrecht, Venlo, Zaandam, Zoetermeer and Zwolle.

We all share the #SameAddress
We all share the same address: Earth. DPD delivered 1.9 billion parcels in 2020. To safeguard future generations and the planet, DPD has reduced CO2 emissions per parcel by 18.8% since 2013. In 2025 these emissions will be reduced by as much as 30%, because in the 225 largest cities in Europe DPD will be using 7,700 vehicles which produce hardly any or even zero emissions. DPD International is also installing 3600 charging points and 80 new city depots, so that more of the shorter-range trips can be made with electric vehicles. DPD will be investing 200 million euros up to 2025, all contributing to a better quality of life in 225 cities in Europe.

Greenest parcel delivery company
Eric Dietz, CEO DPD Netherlands: “Our ambition is to be the greenest parcel delivery company in Europe. And that is why by 2025 we will be making zero-emission deliveries not just in the 30 largest cities, but in the 45 largest cities in the Netherlands. But our ambitions go much further. We aim to have replaced all our vehicles with electric vehicles by 2030. We have already been CO2-neutral since 2012, but now we will be making our processes structurally sustainable, not only in the Netherlands but across the whole of Europe too. All under the motto: we all share the same address. That is Earth, and we must take care of it.”
