DPD continues to expand the out-of-home network

Recipients appreciate convenience and flexibility. So it’s not surprising that the number of out-of-home deliveries continues to grow. Recipients like to be able to decide where and when they can collect their parcel. In order to meet this demand, DPD is building a fine-meshed out-of-home network. The number of ParcelShops and local Drop Off and Pickup points is growing, but plenty of attention is also being given to the introduction of lockers.

During the coming months we expect to start with the first ten lockers. These lockers are a practical solution, as users can drop off or collect their parcels without the need for personal assistance, and without needing to worry about a shop’s opening hours.

At the Veenendaal depot we are currently testing a new type of locker: the locker robot, which makes the best possible use of the locker’s volume. The aim is to test the customer’s experience with this locker. We are now collecting together the initial results and seeing where improvements can be made. DPD Nederland is the first in the group to work with this type of locker.

The number of lockers is also growing in other European countries. DPD Portugal and the Spanish parcel delivery firm SEUR, for example, have recently finalised an agreement with PUDO in Portugal. PUDO is the chain of lockers of the Swiss group KernAG. This collaboration boosts the capacity of both companies to continue developing their out-of-home delivery networks. And in the Baltic states, the out-of-home network largely consists of lockers.
