DPD places great importance on sustainability. Our aim is for all our deliveries in the 45 largest towns and cities to be entirely emission-free by 2025. This year, working with two of our subcontractors we have embarked on more new sustainability initiatives.
Since 1 January this year our subcontractor Kievit has been using renewable fuel. This HVO100 reduces CO2 emissions by 90%, which means a reduction of 1500 tonnes of CO2 in 2022. This fuel is more expensive than regular fuel, but DPD has made the investment as we feel it is important to test this fuel.
Subcontractor Rebro has also been developing sustainability initiatives. The company has bought electric vehicles which will enable marshalling to be fully electric at the Etten-Leur depot. These vehicles are also being used on the route between Etten-Leur and Oirschot.
The main aim is to learn what it is like to use electric vehicles. How long does the battery last? What do we need to bear in mind? How does marshalling work with electric equipment? We want to avoid standstills, of course, so a diesel-powered vehicle will always be on standby. So if the battery is flat, at least the process won’t be jeopardised. We will use the experiences we gain with these projects to develop our sustainability ambitions further.
