Now that the 1.5-metre social distancing rule in the Netherlands will be lifted, contactless deliveries are no longer necessary. We have found, though, that shippers do prefer it if recipients actually sign for receipt, and we are happy to meet the shippers’ wishes. We are carefully preparing to reintroduce the procedure so that from 1 March recipients will resume signing for receipt.
What if a recipient in the Netherlands still doesn’t want to sign?
Recipients use their finger to sign and so don’t need to take the delivery driver’s pen. Even so, we appreciate that there will be recipients who are still hesitant about getting closer than 1.5 metres to the delivery driver. We understand this, of course, and want to offer these individuals a solution too. If a recipient makes clear that he doesn’t wish to sign because he wants to keep his distance, the driver will sign on his behalf. That signature together with the GPS coordinates will then serve as the POD (proof of delivery). But we expect that most recipients will have no problem in signing.
