Recipients to resume signing for receipt

Now that the 1.5-metre social distancing rule has ended, it’s no longer necessary to make contactless deliveries. We do see, though, that many shippers prefer it if recipients do actually sign for receipt. We are happy to meet our shippers’ wishes and so are carefully preparing the reintroduction so that recipients in The Netherlands will be able to sign for receipt again as from 1 November.

What if a recipient doesn’t want to sign yet?

We can imagine that there will be recipients who are still uncomfortable about signing manually. We understand this, of course, and want to offer a solution for these recipients too. If a recipient doesn’t want to sign, the driver will sign on that recipient’s behalf. The driver’s signature together with the GPS coordinates give a good indication that the parcel has been delivered. However, we expect that the majority of recipients will not find signing for receipt a problem.

What does signing for receipt mean for you as shipper?

In principle, nothing is changing. But if you arrange communication yourself with the recipients about the delivery, it would be a good idea for you to inform the recipients of this change. It will help to ease the transition for both delivery personnel and your customers. We will be happy to discuss this with you, and DPD will of course publicise this change through various channels.
