Where are most parcels delivered to Slovenian online shoppers? Does Gen Z really dictate the rules of online shopping?

If you think you’re the only one who no longer waits in store lines, you’re mistaken. As many as 74% of Slovenians shop online, and half of them do so every month. Online shopping in Slovenia has long surpassed being just a trend or a convenient alternative – it has become an everyday habit for most Slovenians.

According to this year’s E-shopper Barometer, one of Europe’s largest studies on online shopping conducted annually by Geopost and DPD, 74% of Slovenians regularly order online. The study, which surveyed more than 30,000 people across 22 European countries, reveals fascinating trends that are reshaping the way we shop.

One of the most surprising findings is that more than half of Slovenian online shoppers are “regular e-shoppers,” meaning they receive at least one parcel per month. These regular shoppers account for as much as 89% of all online purchases in Slovenia.

Slovenian shoppers have high expectations

Regular online shoppers still highlight that online shopping saves time and reduces stress compared to visiting physical stores, while also valuing the wider selection of products and competitive prices.

However, despite the convenience, their expectations continue to rise. They want a fast checkout without registration or creating an account, as well as clear return instructions.

Delivery preferences are shifting

Home delivery still dominates, chosen by 78% of regular e-shoppers, but nearly half use more than one delivery location, showing increasing demand for flexibility. Parcel lockers and pickup points are becoming more popular, with around 41% of parcels delivered to Out of Home locations. DPD operates more than 800 Pickup points in Slovenia and over 135,000 across Europe.

“We are seeing that precise delivery notifications and a clear one-hour delivery window have become almost expected as standard, confirming how important real-time information is when a customer is waiting for a parcel,” DPD Slovenia explained.

In 2025, the top delivery preference among Slovenian e-shoppers is the option to choose between multiple delivery locations, followed by knowing the one-hour delivery window.

A remarkable 71% of Slovenian e-shoppers want to know which delivery service will bring their parcel even before completing their order.

Generation Z shops confidently but often still with their parents’ money

This year’s study also highlighted Generation Z, which is strongly influencing the online market. Younger shoppers use social media not just for entertainment but also for shopping inspiration. Instagram is a key platform for discovering ideas and making decisions; Pinterest is gaining relevance, Facebook still strongly drives actual purchases, and TikTok is becoming increasingly influential among younger generations.

Interestingly, the study shows that although 93% of Gen Z members have a regular income, only one-third are fully financially independent (1 in 3 still receives parental support, and 4 in 10 still live with their parents).

Compared to other generations of regular e-shoppers, an even higher share—52%—choose delivery to Pickup points and parcel lockers, while 63% use more than one delivery location.

“The results of the E-shopper Barometer 2025 clearly show that online shopping is no longer just a trend, but an essential and increasingly personalized service. Slovenian customers value speed, flexibility, and accessible support, while Generation Z is setting new rules with new habits and high expectations,” DPD Slovenia added.
