DPD continues to operate with record results

Ljubljana, May 2022 | GeoPost / DPDgroup published record annual results with a 14 % increase in revenue, with more than 2 billion parcels shipped worldwide and, for the first time in its history, operating profits of more than € 1 billion.

If we thought 2020 was a record year, 2021 surprised us even more and we continued to break our growth records. In an environment still affected by the global health crisis, which has contributed to the strong growth dynamics of e-commerce, GeoPost / DPDgroup has played its role in supporting the recovery of economic activity worldwide and achieved strong operational and financial results in 2021. The company has consolidated its development in key segments and continued its international expansion, with:

  • generated 14.7 billion € in revenues, which is 14.8 % more than in the record year of 2020,

  • realized operating profit of more than one billion euros, which is a 25 % increase compared to 2020,

  • delivered 2.1 billion parcels worldwide, or 8.4 million parcels per day.

  • and broke the daily record of parcels delivered on Cyber Monday in November 2021 (+ 2 % compared to 2020), when 12.2 million parcels were delivered in one day.

DPD in Slovenia follows the group's trends and achieves enviable results

DPD in Slovenia monitors and follows the growth of operations in DPDgroup and achieved excellent results in 2021 as well. Looking at the full year 2021, the volume of parcels, as well as revenue, increased by 13 % compared to the record year of 2020. If we look only at the volume of parcels in domestic traffic, they recorded 18 % growth, which is certainly an enviable result.

In the global, but also in the Slovenian market, we are still seeing a big shift in the delivery of parcels to end users (B2C). DPDgroup's research estimates that there are currently around 146 million regular e-shoppers in Europe, which certainly affects shifts in delivery and business growth. Within DPDgroup, the volume of B2C in the courier, express and parcel industry market (CEP market) increased by 37.3 % between 2019 and 2020, which means a 38 % increase in revenue. In Slovenia, DPD in 2021, compared to 2020, achieved a total of 18 % growth in B2C parcels, and the share of B2C parcels in the total volume was around 70 %.

“The results of the DPDgroup achieved in 2021 are truly impressive. The Group's revenues increased by more than 60 % in two years, and operating profit more than doubled. This excellent result enables the daily efforts of each member of our team, which consists of as many as 120,000 delivery experts," said Igor Jakovljević, Regional Executive Director of DPD Slovenia and DPD Croatia.

Infrastructure investment

Also in 2021, DPD in Slovenia continued to invest in infrastructure, which further upgraded its network and made it even more flexible. The depot in Novo Mesto was moved to a new location to increase logistics capacity, and the first City depot in Slovenia was opened, which pursues the goals of sustainable city delivery, i.e., getting as close as possible to recipients and senders of parcels and thus reducing CO2 emissions.

"Increased quantities of parcels and market demand can only be met by constant investment in infrastructure, automation and new technologies that enable faster processes and less manual work," added Igor Jakovljević. Therefore, plans to expand the infrastructure network will continue this year.

Focus on Easy User Experience (CX)

In the context of innovation trends in parcel delivery services and in the context of the growth of e-commerce, there is a growing focus on meeting the needs and desires of end users. DPD Slovenia is also adapting to this. They want to provide end users with a unique package delivery experience by allowing them to easily change the delivery date and address, as well as various alternative options for picking up packages.

The entire past year was marked by the development and implementation of new services and the improvement of the user experience. DPD made it easier for recipients to deliver and receive parcels by implementing Inja chatbot on their website, launching a brand new myDPD end-user application and expanding the Pickup collection point network to which the parcel can be redirected and picked up when it suits the recipient. Today, more than 70,000 Pickup collection points and parcel lockers can be found in 31 countries around the world, and in Slovenia we have 672 Pickup collection points and 288 Pickup station – parcel lockers.
