Geopost / DPDgroup doesn't stop, Net Zero ambition approved by Science Based Targets initiative: DPD with ambitious targets on the way to greener delivery

Ljubljana, March 2023 | Geopost is the first global parcel delivery company to have its short-term and long-term CO2 reduction targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). This important approval also scientifically supports Geopost's plan to reach the Net Zero goal by 2040 and puts the company on a clear path to become an international reference in the field of sustainable delivery.

The Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) is an international organization that helps companies set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets that are aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Thus, the Geopost group, of which DPD Slovenia is a member, submitted short-term and long-term goals for the approval of the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) last July, and a few days ago the initiative was also officially approved. This makes Geopost the first global parcel delivery company to have both a short- and long-term CO2 reduction target endorsed by SBTi.

This decisive step proves that Geopost is a leader in the field of sustainable delivery worldwide and sets the company on a clear path to become an international reference in the field of sustainable delivery.

By joining the SBT initiative, Geopost committed to completely reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the entire business chain by 2040, and thus the level of harmful gas emissions will be zero.

Net Zero measures will cover both last-mile delivery, line vehicles and warehouses. A great emphasis is placed on the transition to alternative sources of energy. They will focus strongly on replacing fossil fuels with alternative energy sources.

Geopost continues with the electrification of its delivery fleet, and changes in line transport are moving in the direction of electric and hydrogen-powered trucks. In addition, Geopost's logistics locations, offices and warehouses will switch to renewable energy sources. By 2030, as much as 70% of energy will be from renewable sources, and by 2035, 100% of energy will be from renewable sources.

But Geopost will not stop there! One of the goals is to help all customers achieve their own decarbonization goals, thereby encouraging the entire e-commerce industry to join in reducing harmful impacts.

Across Europe, Geopost has been working for years to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will reduce them by 43 % by 2030 and 100 % by 2040 (compared to 2020). Scientifically based Net Zero targets cover 20 business units, including DPD Slovenia.

The targets are aligned with the most ambitious possible way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, all with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
