DPD warns: online and telephone fraud attempts are becoming more frequent!

Ljubljana, October 2022 | Recently, attempts at fraud through various online shopping portals, especially on advertising pages and/or via phone calls, have become more and more common. In some cases, DPD is also referred to as a delivery service that sends money and/or goods.

Fraudsters from various countries, most often from Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, etc., respond to the advertisements of domestic sellers and ask users for the card number, control number (CVV) and card validity via a fake website and/or SMS/WhatsApp message. We warn you that fraudsters try to steal this important information in various ways, but most often they come through advertising sites such as Bolha, Facebook Marketplace, etc. Fraudsters pose as interested buyers who want to make a payment or as sellers who demand an advance payment as a guarantee of a sale. It is always about collecting important data, such as first and last name, card number, card expiration date and three-digit control number (CVV).

DPD would like to explicitly emphasize that such links should not be followed, that such messages constitute an abuse of the DPD brand and that the said messages were not sent by them. DPD sends all e-mail exclusively from the dpd.si domain and will never request payment card data via e-mail or digital communication channels (chat, SMS, WhatsApp, etc.).

DPD Slovenia wants to warn all citizens to be careful with whom they share and where they enter their payment card information. Please note that the card number, control number (CVV) and card expiry date are only required for online payment. If you are selling or expecting payment, the only thing a buyer can legitimately ask for is the IBAN/account number and name of the recipient. Also, DPD will never ask for card balance information. This information is not required when selling or buying on any website, so never enter it. If you suspect fraud, don't click on links you receive in suspicious emails and don't share personal information, especially your three-digit payment card verification number.

If you have been a victim of the fraud attempts and have sent a copy of your card or entered your card information on a fraudulent site, you must notify the bank that issued your card to prevent its further use by fraudsters. The DPD service, which deals with consumer protection, reports every reported form of fraud with all the collected evidence to the competent institutions.

In case of doubt, whether the message really comes from DPD Slovenia and whether you can trust it, you can contact the DPD customer service at the email address [email protected] or the phone number +386(0)1 513 23 00.
