Aschaffenburg, 19th January 2026 - DPD Germany has officially opened a new location in Kaiserslautern. The state-of-the-art parcel sorting center on Von-Miller-Straße, which was built on a 31,000-square-meter site, went into operation on schedule after ten months of construction. Around 130 people will be employed at the site in future. When fully operational, DPD will have a daily sorting capacity that will significantly stabilize and shorten delivery times throughout the Western Palatinate region.
With the new depot in Kaiserslautern, we are strengthening our regional presence and at the same time creating the technological basis for sustainable logistics of the future. The location combines modern sorting technology, energy efficiency, and intelligent processes—an important building block for further modernizing our network and ensuring reliable capacities for our customers.
Karsten Schwarz, CEO of DPD Germany
At the heart of the facility is a particularly quiet cross-belt sorting system that can process up to 5,500 parcels per hour; sorting is carried out digitally using hand-held scanners, eliminating the need for additional labeling. Technical monitoring of the conveyor technology enables predictive maintenance and increases operational reliability.
The new depot also sets standards in terms of sustainability. The hall and administration building are heated and cooled by efficient heat pumps, a photovoltaic system with an output of approximately 650 kWp covers a large part of the energy requirements, and green roofs contribute to climate adaptation. In addition, 60 charging points for cars, vans, and trucks have been prepared; DPD plans to gradually increase the proportion of electric delivery vehicles at the site.
We are delighted to have worked with DPD to create a location that combines economic strength, efficiency, and sustainability. The property is optimally utilized for the depot development and is located in close proximity to the highway junction. Kaiserslautern thus gains a modern logistics facility that is designed for long-term growth and provides important impetus for the labor market and infrastructure.
Gabriele Skipiol, managing director of Skipiol Immobilien GbR
BREMER Süd GmbH, based in Karlsruhe, was responsible for the construction as the general contractor. Thomas Behnisch, Head of Project Management, comments: “Thanks to close cooperation with DPD and Skipiol, we were able to complete the turnkey parcel center in Kaiserslautern on schedule in just ten months of construction. Together, we have created a modern and sustainable property that meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency.”
The new location improves logistical coverage in Rhineland-Palatinate, shortens delivery radii, and stabilizes transit times. This benefits private, commercial, and industrial customers alike. In addition to creating around 130 direct jobs at the depot, additional jobs will be created through the expanded delivery network. In conjunction with existing DPD locations in Saarbrücken and Mannheim, the Kaiserslautern depot strengthens the entire West Palatinate region as an important logistics location.
