Nagold/Aschaffenburg, 3 January 2017 – At the start of 2017 international parcel and express service provider DPD Germany began operations at a new parcel distribution centre in Nagold. The 77th location of DPD Germany was constructed over a 12-month period at a cost of around 30 million euros. After its launch Nagold will initially sort and distribute 37,000 parcels a day. The new depot will have a workforce of up to 300.

At the opening of the new location DPD CEO Boris Winkelmann stated: "Our new depot in Nagold is representative of DPD's strong growth", adding: "As soon as it begins its operations Nagold will be one of our most important hubs in the south of Germany. Our investment is creating jobs with a secure future and making an important contribution to ensuring that we can maintain the pace of our growth."

DPD's parcel sorting centre in Nagold is located on a 57,000 m² site on the INGpark Nagold Gäu business park, which is operated by the municipality of Nagold together with six neighbouring towns. In future the initial parcel volume of 37,000 parcels a day can be expanded to a level of 85,000 parcels daily.

The new location will supplement and relieve the pressure on its neighbouring depots in Ludwigsburg, Villingen-Schwenningen and Wendlingen. An especially important feature is providing services to the business region to the south of Stuttgart. The catchment area of the Nagold depot covers a radius of around 50 km, and takes in towns such as Herrenberg, Sindelfingen and Böblingen.

The new depot in Nagold is a highly energy-efficient location. For example, the use of strip lighting and LED technology reduces the energy requirements for lighting to a minimum. In addition, with its state-of-the-art sorting equipment DPD attaches great importance to motors and drive systems with low power consumption. The new location will also shorten delivery distances, thus reducing the amount of CO2 emissions caused by transport operations. DPD's environmental and energy management is certified in accordance with DIN 14001 and DIN 50001 standards, and DPD Germany is committed to carbon-neutral parcel shipping operations.

DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing is involved in the construction project as an investor, while the general contractor for the building operations was LIST Bau Nordhorn GmbH & Co. KG. The construction of the depot involved moving around 60,000 cubic metres of earth, while 6,200 cubic metres of concrete and 5,000 tonnes of asphalt were used. Both in the interior and the external area pipelines with an overall length of 9.5 km were laid, while the cables have a total length of 46 km. Altogether 53,500 tiles were applied to the walls and floors.
